Re: Speed Cameras

Apart from if its really thick fog. Hundreds of drivers on the m6 avoided speeding tickets because the camera which detected the speeding vehicles couldn't read the registration plates.

Re: Speed Cameras

I wouldnt rely on that info madhatter... sonar can cut through fog with no problems... it dosent 'bounce' off fog... just goes thru it... if the fog is thin enough at the snapshot end it will get you. it takes a snapshot after checking your speed.. the image is the last thing it gets.... good comment though...

Re: Speed Cameras

If you look at the boxes most of them are empty (in Preston anyway) they only have a few cameras but they move them around often.

If i got fined £60 i would expect a copy of the photo as well as the points on my licence!!! lol that would be one expensive picture!!lol

Too right then you can know if it was true or cow pat laying by the money grabbers. How many have actually questioned the fine and points?

Re: Speed Cameras

Surely they can't charge you to see evidence that is about to convict/vindicate you? There must be something illegal in that.

Re: Speed Cameras

Well that actually happened, it took the pictures but they couldn't be read. You can cut through the night but you cant cut through thick fog. Not that I'd recommend it though cos as you say thats a rare ocurance and the fog would have to be really thick, which makes you wonder why they were speeding.

Re: Speed Cameras

To clarify, they know what speed they were doing, the camera tripped, think it was an average speed one anyway, but they could read the registrations because the fog was so thick. Didn't realise it read like i was saying the fog would stop them reading the speed.

Update on Speed Cameras

Thought you would all be interested in this latest headline:

Speed Camera Flaw Claims

Updated: 05:49, Wednesday March 01, 2006

Nearly all speed camera prosecutions are based on inadmissible evidence, according to a motorcycle magazine.

Motor Cycle News claims camera operators are breaching the Criminal Justice Act by not providing photo or video evidence of an alleged offence at least seven days before a trial.

The publication's news editor, Tony Carter, said Motor Cycle News has contacted the three biggest areas which run the speed camera partnerships.

He said: "All the partnerships said 'Evidence isn't automatically submitted'.

"The problem for most people accused of speeding is they won't realise that this fact of law, which our investigation has uncovered, can render the evidence inadmissible in court."
A spokeswoman for the Association of Chief Police Officers said Motor Cycle News' story was incorrect.

She said: "There are two separate issues, the first relates to when a motorist receives notification that they've been detected by a speed camera and they wish to view the evidence relevant to that offence.

"They would then normally submit a request to the safety camera partnership to view that evidence which may be sent to them by post or alternatively arrangements may be made to view the evidence at a police station.

"The second issue relates to when a motorist chooses to have their case heard before a magistrates court and enters a plea of not guilty to the specific offence. Under these circumstances, there are strict procedures laid down in the Criminal Procedures Act 1996 to which the police service fully adheres."

The spokeswoman said Motor Cycle News had "confused" the two issues.

Re: Speed Cameras

Well still say its Goventment approved highway robbery. In times gone by Highwaymen had their necks streached so maybe its time the robbers got the message.

Re: Speed Cameras

i have never seen a speed camera been cleaned but there must be somone who goes and cleans them like there is someone who cleans phone box's

if we can find out how often they are cleaned we can spray paint over the lenses and be safe for a while
