Post Speed Cameras or Revenue Collection?

Please visit http://www.saferroads.co.uk/main.php and print and sign the petition relating to 'Demanding real road safety measures, NOT roadside revenue collection'.

A mate pointed this out to me, looks good!

Once again, more camera whinging.

Does it really matter whether a camera is hidden (and hence automatically collecting a speeding fine from those breaking the law) or can be plainly seen and can therefore act as a deterrant?

There are 4,000 road deaths every year and 4 X as many serious injuries. Three-quarters are speed related. Thats 3000 dead  - (the same as 9/11 by Al-Quida) -  due to plonkers thinking they're clever and going faster than they should be doing.

Stop whinging and obey the law...

I agree with you tealeaf. There should be more hidden camera's, if people dont know where the camera's are then maybe they would drive more carefully, resulting in less death's also i believe if you are caught drink driving then you should be banned for life. It's the ONLY way to stop it. The laws are far to lenient in this country.

Tealeaf you miss the point. Nobody is complaining that speed cameras are inherently wrong. It is the placement of said cameras that is the problem. Many cameras are placed where they will make the maximum revenue NOT SAVE LIVES!!

I presume you've researched your figures so I will accept them, I wonder how much these figures have fallen due to Speed Cameras.

As long as I can recall the stretch of Whalley Road at Harwood Bar was 40mph. No lives were lost to my knowledge. Some bright spark comes up with the idea (in this day and age of ABS etc..) of reducing the limit to 30mph (bear in mind that this is not a built-up area) and then sticks a camera at the top of a hill facing down. That in my opinion has been placed for revenue NOT for saving lives. Put it next to a school, an old folks home, in the centre of town...nah..they wont do that because it wont make any money. There are many other cameras placed like this throughout East Lancs, I use this simply because most reading this forum know of it.
