This young woman wanted to look her best........because when you look good, you feel good.
Never in all my years, have I ever found the need for owt other than soap & water, I would rather smell of sweat & diesel oil, than be misten for a pufter, and if folk don't like what they see when they look at me, then look somewhere else.
A spray tan went wrong.....and you make unkind comments about creosote. Shame on you!
As I said tha carned mek a silk purse out of a sows ear. If its already a silk purse then leave it be.

I don't know what Tealeaf takes, but whatever it is it makes him make cheap jibes at people who do not deserve it.
You might want to smell of sweat and diesel oil...but then you are not a fashion conscious young woman.

Retlaw, your comments do not do you justice.

If you have daughters, then you will know that whatever we tell them about looking beautiful, they still want to enhance what nature gave them.

Is that wrong? And if they do want to make the best of themselves, does that make them a sows ear? It isn't very complimentary is it?

I expect that kind of comment from Tealeaf, but I would hope you could be kinder to this young woman....or just a bit more understanding.

These comments are just cheap jibes, however you wrap them up.

Might have been kinder to say you shouldn't gild a lily.

Yes, it would have been kinder, but it would still have been an unwarranted comment.
Young girls follow the celebs, they want to look as good as they can and will use all kinds of artifice to ensure they do....lipstick, eyeshadow....fake tan. What's the difference? It was for a special event....a wedding. We all make an extra effort for such occasions. Is that wrong? I don't think it is.

No, it isn't wrong.

Although I've never had one myself, it's popular with males, as well as females, who want a healthy glow, without risking skin cancer.

Willow's daughter is a beautiful young woman, both on the inside, and out.

People might not see the need themselves, but comparing it to sow's ears - ugly, and silk purses - beautiful, is rude.

Hence, if you don't agree with spray tans, it would have been kinder to say 'Don't gild the lily'. Which at least infers that you can't improve on perfection.

Re: Spray Tan From Hell!

Of course those that scoff at the vanity of others, have never done anything vain themselves, to improve their appearance to others.

Like shaved.

Washed.

Brushed the dandruff off a jacket.

Combed their hair, or used a product such as Brylcreem, or oil.

Even polished their shoes.

In the strictest sense, all totally unnecessary.

Except to pander to vanity.

It's nothing new.

Women don't really need hosiery, but when nylons weren't available in the war, out came their spray tan equivalent...
gravy browning.

It's time that the 'pale and interesting' look becomes fashionable again.
My two grandaughters are opposites - one tanned, one pale, both beautiful.

It's all Coco Chanel's fault.

She got burnt whilst sailing on the Riviera. On her return to Paris, ladies who up until then had avoided the sun, all wanted the new suntanned look, which up until then had only been sported by peasants in the fields.

Two ladies of a similar age, both noted for their beauty, and both now in their late seventies.

Guess which one was a fan of the tan, and which has never felt the sunshine on her face?

never had a spray tan .. from time to time i'll put fake tan on my legs ... not often .. so really dont know how spray tans work .. but i always thought a spray tan wasnt meant to streak .. that was why it a spray rather than a cream or gel etc ... glad she got sorted willow even though she had to go elsewhere ....

Re: Spray Tan From Hell!

Surely these tanning places need some sort of certificate of competence before they are allowed to plaster chemicals over people's bodies?

If not, then at the very least Trading Standards should pay a visit to the place where Willow's daughter went first, to ascertain whether their procedures (including putting right what went wrong, and refunds) are in line with accepted practice.

It was only £10 and quite honestly it wasn't so much the money as the defensive attitude and insistance that they had done nothing wrong which really annoyed me.

The shop owner/manageress has now tried to claim it is all my daughter's fault for wearing inappropriate clothing. My response to that is if they thought her clothing might damage the tan why did they go ahead and do it without telling her that? However, if you look at the photos the areas which are white have quite clearly not been sprayed, not rubbed off by clothing and the type of clothing she wore would not account for the palms of her hands being tanned and the stupid instruction to rub in the liquid with her hands when the machine spit it out in liquid form.

Thank you to all the people who said nice things about her. Yes, she did just want to look her best for a special occasion and isn't one of those people in the habit of indulging in a spray tan on a regular basis - perhaps if she was then she would have realised the person doing it was far from competent at the time.

I've been in touch with Trading Standards and waiting to hear from them on the subject. I'm sure there are laws about refusing to give refunds too.

As for gilding the lily - well I got my hair cut and coloured and bought some new clothes for the occasion. I suppose wearing my scruffy old jeans and a t-shirt might have been acceptable to some but hardly desireable. It's natural to 'make an effort' for a special day. I'm glad she chose to go for a spray tan rather than a series of sunbed sessions which lead to all sorts of potential health problems. I hope she ends up more like Joan than Brigitte in her later years
