Cool Re: Stupidity and traffic don't mix

There were traffic lights for that side of the road so that would indicate a pedestrian crossing of some sort. If you look further up the road just after where cars are turning right immediately after the end of the island the traffic coming towards us is stopped at traffic lights. You can just make out a traffic light on green on the island.

What about the guy walking on the road side of the railings as the bus came by and the 14 years old gave the bus a Glasgow Kiss? He just carried on walking across the road.

What grabbed my attention were the cars arriving at the scene. Quite rightly they stopped then as the car in the outside lane moved up a bit white van changed lanes. He obviously reasoned that the nearside lane would be blocked for a while and the outside lane would probably be the first to move, so he got over early. The ambulance and police would have a hard time getting to the scene and until the police did it would be gridlock on that side of the road.

The question is should the bus driver hop out of his cab and get the outside lane moving past the accident to give the emergency services a clear run if they would be coming from that direction? Or maybe a teacher if there was one there? Or even an adult attending to the victim. Or would that encourage drivers further back to switch lanes so that they would not be held up. No doubt many drivers would switch anyway with the nearside lane stopped.

Once it had been established that the victim was alive, breathing and in no further danger surely the next thing to do is to clear a path for the emergency services to the victim. I suppose that it would have been prudent to ask the driver of the car in the outside lane if he witnessed the incident and if he did ask him to pull up ahead of the bus to await the police. It is doubtful if any other driver apart from the driver of the blue car in the inside lane was a witness.

A “Toucan Crossing?” Does that mean that only two people can cross at a time.
