Perfectly fine so long as he gets his schools permission, his mother went the following day to talk to the headmistress.
Hysterics! the woman went mad! under no circumstances am I having one of my pupils going to college when he should be using his free time to get through his exams!
But he does his homework and then goes out hanging on street corners with his mates, came the reply from his mother.
Well what he does out of school time is up to you she said.
o.k., replied his mum if thats the case I will see the board of governors.
She went to see the gallant team of parents could do wells and teachers and lo and behold got the permission so long as he didn't lose anything of his classwork,(fairy nuff).
At the age of 15 Roy passed his computer course (98% if I remember correctly, (could have been 100% but they marked him down 'cos he didn't spell Roy correctly)).
He got all the exams needed for school as well, he now works full time showing off, (actually no-one anywhere has yet caught him working).
But rules is rules if they aren't obeyed you might end up with something like ACCYWEB!

Yes, I also, accidentally drank some, recently, when the barmaid gave me the wrong drink...a horrendous experience!

There is more alcohol in many cough medicines for kids than what is in a can of shandy, sounds stupid to me.

My grandaughter's school didn't allow fizzy drinks in packed lunches of any sort.... mind you, if I had my way, wouldn't allow packed lunches at all .. but OK .. another subject we have covered before.
On the surface, the school does seem to have been a little hard on this lad, however, we do not know what attitude he adopted to his teacher when confronted, do we ? Might have given her a load of lip.
Just seen your post HR. Same thing eh ?

I just tried to give you karma but it wouldn't let me. I've been waiting for you to come in on this thread. I had a hunch that you'd agree with me regarding school rules.
Now where are the other sense-talkers?

Wonder if you would all have a different attitude if they served this drink at your school children's Christmas party ?

In my opinion teachers have never been the sharpest of knives in the drawer. They go to school, then college, then Uni perhaps, then back to school. Common sense and even a remote idea of what life exists beyond the school gates just seems to escape them.

A zero tolerance policy in relation to alcohol.

seeing as how many schools used to sell the stuff, no sane person would differ.

Re: Suspended for drinking... shandy
Well it wouldn't get them drunk would it?
My girls would probably say 'no thank you' if they saw the reference to beer but if they didn't notice that and did drink it thinking it was just a lemonade drink I don't think I'd create merry hell over it.

And how do you define an alcoholic drink? The law clearly defines this as a non-alcoholic drink otherwise it would only be on sale to those over 18.

It's a good job they didn't actually say no beer, as by your pedantically literal interpretation of the rules, there'd be kids arriving at school with bottles of vodka stuffed in their blazer pockets. The policy was zero tolerance on alcohol. Shandy is officially classfied as a non-alcoholic product, that's why it's a non-licensed line. Can't make it any clearer!
