Re: Temptations of the Flesh
I'm managing to bore myself about this subject, so I'll stop talking about it now! It should be interesting to see how it gets on though when it opens!

There were one or two knocking about in those days Barrie, that put striptease on but they were mainly cabaret clubs which were subsidised by the casino, but they all folded, when the tightened gaming laws up in the late 60s, places like the Starlight club, 77 club at Brierfield, can't remember the name of the one at Rosegrove though

Just be grateful Barbara Lucas, and before that Isabel Potts, never whipped off their liberty bodices, to pull you a pint in the Stop.

Re: Temptations of the Flesh
This is stretching the memory but didn't Margot Grimshaw do a stint as a topless barmaid in Blackburn, in a pub on the Boulevard? That was before she came over all moralistic and holier than thou, of course.

Re: Temptations of the Flesh
Groove thinks this club is doomed to failure, once the novelty wears off it will be empty. Groove has been for a lapdance in the past at Blackpool just for a laugh. You would have to be a pillock to frequent these places regularly. Accy has'nt got the clientele with the money for this joint. Groove might go for a nosy, however he usually gets ejected for slapping the lapdancers bottoms-they don't like it.......killjoys.

Re: Temptations of the Flesh
There were strippers at Harrys bar (behind railway station) in Accy 15 years since....and Groove remembers the topless barmaids at the top club in Clayton, he was a regular.

I don't think she owned it, Jay. That was in the days before she had The Merchants and The Dirty Duck.

I seem to remember watching a tv programme about her, and her saying she brought topless barmaids to Blackburn.
I can't remember if she said she wopped 'em too.
Perhaps she just helped 'em out when they were busy.

Re: Temptations of the Flesh
A friend's mother, who knew La Grimshaw, assured me that she did and implied that 'whopping them out' was not all she got up to.

Despite the Maureen Cookson type bling, she does seem to favour being stoutly shod.
I always presumed she tipped the velvet.
Though being a keen businesswoman, perhaps she took her vest off for purely commercial reasons.
