Yeah...High Noon.....Stagecoach...The Man who Shot Liberty Valance. These are cowboy films. The baddies got shot and the men in white prevailed. A good tale and a simple moral message. So why do we now have to have this nonsense passing off as a cowboy film? If you want to make a gay love story, then stick it in a seedy massage parlour or something similar. Thats all it needs. Why ruin the romance of the Wild West?

Doris Day's Calamity Jane has been a lesbian pin up for nearly half a century.

Ah, Calamity Jane, one of my all-time favourite films. I have it on video. Didn't know Doris was a lesbian though! Mind you, "Once I had a secret love" is in there.

Re: that one about gay cowboys...

Thanks Gary, Doris Day was one of my childhood sweethearts and you go and shatter the illusion by suggesting that she was a rug raider……

There's a new film to be released later in the spring about a love starved Sheppard’s wife in the welsh boarders who falls in love with the Milk Maid. It’s called Offa's Dyke.

No Doris Day isn't a lesbian at all. She has however done lots of work for AIDS charites because of her friendship with Rock Hudson, and is a bit of a right on feminist in real life.

She was a pin up for lesbians because of her Calamity Jane role, I suspect for her sharp shootin', tom boyishness, and her dislike of frilly frocks.

If all none skirt wearers were lesbian we would be in a mess. On the plus side there would be fewer young (teen) single mothers.

Re: that one about gay cowboys...

This film well deserves it's Oscar nominations.

A sad, poignant, beautifully shot and acted film.

The dialogue for the whole film is probably only a couple of pages long, what's not spoken is more powerful for that fact.

Anybody worried about gratuitous adult scenes need not fret. My friend Milly in Italy has seen it four times, and over there it's become the chick flick of the moment.

The film, like life, doesn't have any conclusions, but is well worth watching.
