The age old question..

Is it pronounced CoLne (with the L pronounced) or Cone?

I suspect some would say it is pronounced with a K, i.e. Kone.

My Burnleyish girlfriend says it like 'CoLne' ...but they all talk wrong over yonder.
It's 'Cone'.

i suspect some would say its pronounced with a D, i.e.dump. though in truth i have always used colne.

Doesn't the name have something to do with rabbit breeding from the time when they were considered a rare delicacy, fit only for noble tables? Hence places like Colney Hatch and the Colney Hotel on Blackburn Road. If so, then the correct pronunciation would have to be, CONE.

There are lots of words out there that never sound like they are spelt but I would say without the L.

I roll the "l" when I say Colne its the same argument with Camelon (silent "e") as in one word or is it Came-lon Cam-e-lon. I would say its down to personal preference.
