To my mind, any actual physical improvements to wards are better use of money than self-aggrandising literature of any kind and you will find my attitude remains much the same when there is a shift in control.

Stop moaning on about how it could have been better spent in Rishton, you are starting to sound like a stuck record.
If the Council did not tell people what was going on they would get people complaining about that. When they do people complain it costs money to inform you about things. They cant win.
The bigger issue here is the suggested bias of the information not the cost of it.

Accyweb touches a small percentage of the people in Hyndburn so would be a poor replacement for the paper copy through the letterbox. Even the Councils own website would not be read by as many people that will actually read the Beacon.

Going by the number of people I know, who were lucky enough to receive a copy, and straight away binned it, so might The Beacon.

'Will actually read'?
Any statistics to better illustrate how many will read it?

No none at all but not every household has a PC, access to the internet or knows how to use the web.

No they don't.
That's why I gave other examples of how useful information could be pased on to residents, such as on council tax bills, whose cost is already accounted for, and which go to every household in the borough. That's besides telephone books, libraries, town halls, etc., etc.
Oh, and the calendars we get.

Did you get, and read one?
How much new information did you gleam from it?
We could compare notes.

Re: The Beacon
We have to remember that this kind of thing was started by Labour at country council and yes it was, like the Beacon, a back slapping publication, never any mention of the Labour or Lib/dem county councillors and this has been coming though our letterboxes, delivered by the Royal Mail for a very long time, think its called the Vision, can't ever remember it being brought up on here though, mind you Ken Moss hasn't been on here long and would have said a word if it was published my Labour

After it was mentioned, as I said, I got it out of the recycling sack, and read it.
It was better than L.C.C.'s Vision, in my opinion.
It did read like a vanity publication.
Something that no one else thinks is worth publishing, so the author pays to have it printed privately.
I won't read it again.
Anything that comes through the door, that doesn't have my name on it, and therefore that it's being sent to me personally, goes straight into the white sack.

Perhaps it might be an idea, before shoving it through our letterboxes, if they knocked, and asked us if we wanted to read it.
Those 8p's would perhaps soon mount up.
After all, look after the pennies, and the pounds look after themselves.
We'd perhaps have more money to throw at the more needy, underfunded areas of concern in Hyndburn.
Community arts, for example.

I tend to do that myself, especially around April each year

Yes, I remember.
You didn't know much about Karen Buckley.
(She was the Conservative candidate for Hyndburn, in the last General Election, by the way.)

Show of hands please.
Those no shows will have to be factored into the individual 8p cost, of those of us who did.
