The Beatles

Did they ever perform in Accrington?

I remember an article from Reader's Digest, maybe it was an article about George, and there were quotes - one in particular, not quoted exactly : "We had made the big time and the money was rolling in, but we had also obligated the band for appearances at Men' Working Men's Clubs in Accrington.....". I kept the RD for ages. Prolly lost now. Maybe 1980s/1990s.

Re: The Beatles

Agree with Cashy, never heard that but I’m sure there are hundreds of towns that claim the Beatles played there.
One really famous name I heard had played in Accrington, obv before he became such, was Paul Simon. Never found out if it was true but recall he was rumoured to have performed at the old Jazz Club in the grounds of Peel Park.

No....I am a Beatles era lady....and I cannot recall them ever coming to Accrington.
I did see the Yardbirds at Accrington Con Club....but had to go to Blackpool to see the Beatles......though my friend and I were a long way back...so we should have taken opera glasses...it was July 1964...I was 17 and the tickets were a birthday present from my friend Sheila’s parents....I think I only got to go because Sheila was a fan too and her parents wanted to let her go, but wanted someone to go with her.
I wish I had saved the stubs

Benipete who is sadly no longer with us, used to tell a tale of meeting him there.
