Exclamation The government has plans......

According to the news today the government has plans to do something about immigration, they are going to implement a points system and deport unsuccessful asylum seekers.
I hope these plans have some substance to them and someone dynamic enough to ensure that the plans are put into action.
It is not before time.

Re: The government has plans......

As the General election approaches we can expect to hear a good deal more about what the main parties intend to do about immigration. It should be noted at this juncture that Labour have been in office for the last eight years. During which time the situation has become steadily worse. Their new proposals, annouced yesterday, would take five years to come into effect. In the meantime, the ports and backdoors will still be open to anyone who wants to use or misuse them.

It shows how seriously they take the problem. What was it my granny used to say...."Fine words butter no parsnips."

New Labour are all talk and no action. I hope you remember this when you stand in the polling booth. Remember the day they defeated John Major's Government when they were glad handing everyone in sight and singing "Things can only get better"?

Well, think about it, have they?

Our streets are awash with drugs. We have spent £10 Billion Pounds on an unjustifiable war and we are less free than we were as a result of it. Young people now have little or no chance of ever being able to afford to buy their own homes. We are shortly going to become a part of a federal Europe controlled by France and Germany. The Pound will shortly be consigned to history and be replaced with the Euro. We are now governed by a bewildering array of unelected Quangos, advisory bodies and think tanks and our assets are being given away as quickly as possible to Key Partners and Stakeholders.
Our Prime Minister is a Bare Faced Liar and his cabinet fight among themselves like cats in a bag while he indulges in schoolboy tiffs with his Chancellor about who's turn it is next. I could go on.

If this is a sample of what is meant by "things can only get better". One shudders to think what their song will be should they win the coming election.

Re: The government has plans......

I agree whole heartidly A-B BUT!!!!! who to vote in instead? The Torys are a million miles away from being a credible goverment. The Lib-Dems have thrown away the best chance they have ever had of becoming the opposition with a chance of goverment.

TBH at this rate I would welcoem a European superstate because it can't be much worse than what we have on offer at the moment. Think about it.

France/Germany are probably the best countries at making sure illegal immigrants do not want to stay in their countries by making life hard for them.

The police in these countries are not scared to get stuck in when needs arise.

With a bit of German efficiency our NHS system would be the world leader it should be rather than a cash cow for middle management

We say we don't want the Euro but more people than ever are buying property abroad. with Eurozone by far the most popular. OK the Euro isn't perfect but witha variable rate against the pound it offers instability that can cause small businesses to go from highly competitive to unable to compete in a very short period of time.

So, whats the answer? I don't know... until I do I'll be living my life making the best choices I can

Hmmmm, If I had the answer to that particular conundrum I would be writing from Downing Street, not Hyndburn.

Re: The government has plans......

Whatever Tony Blair SAYS, he can't deliver. He has handed over control of immigration to Brussels, and they set the quota we must take. Great news, folks! All those Krauts and Frogs making the decision as to how many WE should take. Michael Howard said he would take a firm line on immigration and stem the tide. What happens? Some bureaucrat in Brussels says "Sorry, mate, you can't do that - it's our decision, not yours". Blair swore blind that he would never hand over control of Britain's borders to Europe. He did. He would not admit that he had done so until his hand was forced by Brussels.

Take your choice. The Tories are not in the best shape, but what is the alternative? The Lib-Dems would immediately rush into dealing with major issues like proportional representation (yes, folks, you too can vote five times each election! - hard enough to get some people to vote once). Or of course you can vote Labour, and find that what control we have left of this country is either handed over to someone in a foreign country who holds no brief for us, or is subjugated to Dubya's foreign policy (which is "My Daddy had a war and I want one of my own").

Come on, A-B, stand for Parliament and get into Downing Street!

Re: The government has plans......

Yes but if they were in charge of us they'd throw them back at eastern Europe/Africa.

As I said before, what alternative do we have? I can't see one political party I would trust to run a childs tea party never mind the country.

Re: The government has plans......

There are several things you can do to register your discontent with our elected representatives. The first and most important is to write to all of them and tell them exactly what you think and why. Next you can also tell all of them that although you voted for them the last time (whether you did or not doesn't matter, there is no way that they will know that) you won't be doing so again. You can do this either by snail mail or email. If enough people did this you would be surprised at the reaction.

When the election comes, instead of staying away from the polls, exercise your right to vote, but mark your ballot paper with the word "ABSTAIN".

Again, if enough people did that the reaction would be something to behold.

Re: The government has plans......

If everyone (and I mean everyone) abstained from voting, would we have a government? Everyone will have exercised their right to not vote anyone in, so who would be in charge?

Re: The government has plans......

I don't think any of the fine things that Labour promised us have happened..........crime, well thats a laugh...... they were going to get tough on crime and the causes of crime.......figures from police forces are massaged to try to let us think that things were getting better. I think most of us know someone who has been a victim of crime. What happens to the criminals....a slapped wrist and told to behave.
Motorists are being made into criminals by increasing legislation. I could go on and on.
There is NO politician that I can trust.......no party I can trust......so when the election comes around what do I do?????? because I'm damned if I know.
