Re: The Height Of Insensitivity!!

A few times I've talked to people over the phone regarding errors on bills and the like, I have heard the excuse, "sorry its a computer error" to which my reply is, computers don't make errors its the idiot who puts the information in that makes the error, they really don't have an answer to that

Posted via Mobile Devicei wll ask the full details of this, it will no doubt come down to human errror on the part of whoever entered the text not flagging the account correctly. As i understand it there is a no mail flag that is pervasive throughout the whole of Baclays and all mailshot/batch jobs have to check this register. There is actually a whole department who deal with the whole mailshot side of things.

Well, in a way it does. It may have been progtrammed to send out an annual, or semi annual or biennial mail shot to all account holders, or to accounts with over a certain balance, or accounts which have not been used for a number of months. I've recently had a couple of automated letters from Barclays which look like they have been sent out to all account holders as they contain such general information, but they are addressed to me by name. There will not have been a member of staff who specifically pushed a button to request a letter be sent to that particular account in particular. That is why the 'no mail shot' flags exist. Flags are a message keyed in to the computer to refrain from doing certain actions under certain circumstances, so they just by-pass those particular accounts.

Re: The Height Of Insensitivity!!

Err what was the letter about ? If it was would you like a new credit card fair enough, but if it was something to do with clearing up an account, or something the bank had unearthed and didnt know who else to send it to ?

I dont mean this to sound insensitive, but if the letter was "hello, we`ve found out we owe you a million quid, would you like cash or cheque" I doubt we`d be having this conversation

This isn't about those sort of situations. I have been a widow and received mail addressed to me dealing with the affairs of my late husband. That is only to be expected and not at all insensitive. Of course I had to deal with subscriptions which had been taken out in his name, club memberships, insurance policies, his former employer and goodness knows how many other things none of which were at all insensitive or unacceptable. I've even had letters come through addressed to him long after his death from people who were unaware he had died. But a letter address TO him with the word 'deceased' in brackets? Several months after his death? Nope, not had one of those and now that Bernie has explained in more detail I agree that the woman she's referring to shouldn't have had one either.
I'd be more worried williow if they sent a letter to you with (deceased) after your name.

Does it matter what the letter was about?? The bank had been informed that the man had died and then sent a letter to him. I am sure they will have had his wifes contact details!!
