The Postman Calls

It used to be that he, the postman put through a few bills, maybe a letter, or perhaps a world changing note that needs instant response.

These days, unfortunately his main purpose is to push unwanted fliers through our letterboxes.

Normally I just stick them in the white sack without looking at the super bargains I don't want.

Today, I felt something different, just a little bit thicker than a normal pile of trash.

It was a letter with a cheque in it paying me several pounds in back taxes.

I wonder how many other letters go astray because the post office wrap crap around paid for genuine mail instead of pushing the letters through separate from unwanted bull?

We have a really good postman. He separates the rubbish and puts the real mail on top and folds the flyers and puts them underneath.
Saying that, although the flyers are unwanted I always check them because sometimes our usual postman has a day off or a holiday.

Re: The Postman Calls

We have the same problem Margaret. I think it is ridiculous that the postmen have to deliver these unwanted fliers. I once said as much to our postman and he said 'Well it keeps us in a job.'

Mine also go straight into the bin Cashy. But on the same subject of postmen. Every postman that I have met since I have lived down here in Kent. (24 Years) I have never seen a happy one. No good morning or no smile. They don,t even carry a big bag any more, they have electric buggies, yet they are still so miserable. Yet when I bump into one of them in the pub. They are so full of the joys of spring all the time. I asked them why are they so unhappy. One said How would you like getting up at 5 o'Clock every day to trudge the streets. My reply is ,Well not now because I'm 70, but when I was 16 My dad had to get me up at 3.30 am every day so that I could go and spend 8 hours on my hands and knees working in the coal mines. We must have had it easy Olly.

Well, we must be very lucky.
The two postmen who do the deliveries in our bit of Clayton seem to be happy and always speak...even when they are not delivering the post.
We commiserate when the weather is bad and they are out in the thick of it(one of them in shorts whatever the weather is doing)when the weather is hot, I give them a cold glass of juice to refresh them.
They are two of the most pleasant hard working chaps you could wish to meet.

Yes you are about right mate. They are either soft southerners or Cockanees who support Arsenal.
