The Potato
Are you all gonna' rush to Sainsbury's/Tesco where a new potato is being launched which has been bred to represent what Sir Walter Raliegh brought back to England from South America in the 16th century ? Where did it go anyway ?
Called the Mayan Gold and apparentely has a golden flesh with a buttery taste ... yummy. Wonder if ya' can make chips or roast or mash it. Think might try a few.
To me, gotta' go a long way before it matches the King Edwards, makes the best roast spuds in the whole wide world.
What's your favourite ? Any new recipe ideas welcome.

Re: The Potato
I'm a fan of King Edwards, roasted, mashed cant beat it, I dont have any recipe's but I will recommend buying a potato bag if you haven't already got one, bought one from Kleneze £2.99 brilliant for keeping them fresh.

Re: The Potato
I wouldn't mind trying it out and seeing how it compares to our modern spuds.

Try bannana skins instead.
There must be as many different kinds of spuds now as there is dishes that can be made with them.

Re: The Potato
These new/old spuds sound similar to Kumara (sweet potato). They sell them in Asda but I have never bought one. Kumara is the spud that they tend to eat the most in NZ. They make reasonable chips if you can get used to the buttery slightly sweet taste, they are lovely cut into chunks and roasted but the best thing is that they make the most scrummy mash.
