£4000 doesn't sound much, that's basically two coppers not being allowed to work overtime for a month.

Here's what's happ'nin in Canada:
The exploding cost of policing in Canada - Canada - CBC News
The article actually has some positive things to say about how the Brits are dealing with the problem.

Don't mind C'mon Eric he lives in his own "I hate the Tories Bubble" with blinkers on, never mentioning once the abortion of a Government they have had to follow, remember Liam Bern's little note left on his desk in the treasury, sorry there's no money left we've spent it all

Re: The Tories
The problem is, that the lines that used to differentiate the political parties have got so blurred in recent years, that even a labour government(called New Labour) was a shade of mauve, there is no such thing as socialism anymore....politicians are not in the job to ensure their constituents get a good deal(or even a fair deal), that their voice is listened to, that their wishes are heeded...they are in the job because it is a lifelong career, one which they can line their pockets, at our expense, live high on the hog while all the rest of us struggle to pay the bills.
One rule for them and another one for the rest of us. Democracy is a joke. If voting really changed anything they would stop us from doing it.

Re: The Tories
Does anyone know how long an MP have to serve before they get an MP's pension, and what sort of pension do they get?

If this were the conspiracy theory thread, one might be tempted to argue that the pollicy of Thatcher's tories was to destroy the working class in order to wipe out Labour's support base Similar to the strategy of von Falkenhayn at Verdun: render untenable the position of the British Army by bleeding the French army white.

I think they get a pension based on whatever time they served -
"A Member building up benefits at an accrual rate of 1/50th of salary would need some 33 years and 4 months service for a full MP’s pension. Those contributing a higher percentage of earnings will need a shorter period of pensionable service to reach the maximum.
An MP serving the average term of office of 15 years, paying contributions at 11.9% of pensionable pay (and, therefore, accruing benefits at a rate of 1/40th) would accrue a pension of around £22,500 pa (about 1/3rd of an MP’s pay). The average pension in payment from the scheme is around £18,000 pa."
