seem to remember in the 'owd" days any Accrington kid who was lucky enough to 'win' a place at university was usually given a grant by the local Council/UDC (both Tory and Labour) and a big write up in the local paper , no mention of wether the youngster came from a needy family , considering the times most of the folks who got them were from middle class families

to me I would not have a proplem with anyone having extra education at university having a "grant" to pay for those fees . but only if that grant was paid by the Government and not the local council of whatever political leaning...it opens would open up old sores and could end up with sorting out your own...so why even bring up this matter?.. I'll tell you.. it's because the Tories always try to cushion us into this sort of degrade of anything that we know is not right with the hope that one day it will be made real.

Is this another portent of what would happen nationally under a Tory government.

Parents who lose jobs to have school fees subsidised by Bromley Council - Times Online
Sounds like the thin end of the wedge .... the thick end will come after the next general election ...
