The USA no fly list...

so there's a list in america that says these 44,000 ppl arent allowed to fly into america...drawn up after the 2001 attacks on the US

these include

Saddam Hussain
Bolivian president Evo Morales
Lebanon's parliamentary speaker, Nabih Berri

worryingly it includes many many common names such as gary smith, john williams and robert johnson

and also includes

the names of 14 of the long-dead 11 September hijackers

so much so for america trying to feel safe.

However, the names of the 11 British suspects recently accused of a plot to blow up airliners flying to the US were not included on the list.

Re: The USA no fly list...

I wonder how many Gary Smiths, John Wlliamses and Robert Johnsons get refused entry and haven't a clue why. Presumably there must be some sort of means of appeal?

Gotta watch all them dangerous dead people too you know! Can't be too careful.

Re: The USA no fly list...

Add to that the new regs that require a special visa for those that have a criminal record then there is more confusion. A work mates father in law has been told he has to get one because of a criminal record down to an incident 20 odd years ago. This may be to protect the US but it will stop a lot of people going because of the hassle. What would happen if we applied the same rules for anyone entering this country?

(6) where the Secretary of State has personally directed that the exclusion of a person from the United Kingdom is conducive to the public good;

Re: The USA no fly list...

When I used to fly frequently back and forth from Ireland during "the troubles" increased security was introduced which involved filling in a questionaire -

Are you, or have you at any time been, a member of a paramilitary organisation?
What is the purpose of your journey?

Ah, yes sir, now, I'm undercover with the IRA and I'm just bringing this bomb to Mancheser so I am!

When I'm flying out of the country I'm always amused when the check-in staff ask me if I packed my case myself. I always want to say, "Certainly not, one's butler does one's packing."

Willow I was bemused by that as well until it was explained to me.
If the police/Army arrest you and have an idea that you are/maybe a member they can look at the form, where you lied and said no and hold you for up to 48hrs while they investigate, if they find you are a member they can charge you with lying on an official form and you could get up to 2yrs in prison.
See cuts out all that getting a judge to have you held and all the do gooders can shout from the roof tops, but in the end you lied on a form.
