The weather....
I believe it was forecast for a terrible winter in England, did that happen? It has certainly started happening here, it hit -32 last night and is forecast for -37/40 before weekend. We have double glazing in the flat and it is completely iced up on the inside, we have icicles forming from the window. There is even an icicle coming down from the window opening handle! However, the heating in the flat is fine and we are still warm! Outside it is difficult to breath and your nose freezes up on the inside almost in an instant. On monday night I drove back from Saint Petersburg and it hit -28, the antifreeze for the windscreen washers was starting to freeze! This is certainly the coldest moscow winter I've experienced.
Just found a bbc news report on it - http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/n...2006news.shtml

Re: The weather....
So far it's not really been too bad here. I'm hoping it doesn't get any worse because I hate winter and I can't keep my feet when it's icy on the ground. The central heating isn't even on this morning in our house (must find out why) but I'm not cold so it can't be bad. I never think to look at the car thermometer when we're out.

Re: The weather....
Every body kept on saying how bad this winter was going to be. So far we have had a mere trickle of snow in December and thats been it. Ive been in the car during the day when its said -1 but thats the worse ive seen it.
My flat has that economy 7 heaters but cant afford to use them but we are getting by with just the gas fire when it does get cold enough to use it.

Re: The weather....
In the Daily Mail today we were warned that your weather from Russia is due soon. Although the temperatures don't change much the chill factor does possibly due to moisture in the air.

Re: The weather....
On the subject of weather... my 7 year old asked me the other day how those on TV knew what the weather was gonna be like. I explained about satelites e.t.c and his reply was... well how come it's nearly always wrong!
Here's a question from my little'un for any boffins on here. Why can we hear and feel the wind but we can't see it? We tried looking on the internet but couldn't find the answer and his teachers didn't know either.

Re: The weather....
Because the air molecules are too small to be seen by the naked eye?

Re: The weather....
Brrrrrr..... I hate the cold. I have also registered a -7 in my car on an early morning start this winter. I would have to hibernate if it got as cold as Russia..
