The Weather
Now I don't want to make this bad weather a political issue.. but where are the government that told us they were prepared for any situation?.. they told us only weeks ago not to worry .. these people and ex high school boys have no idea of the chaos this country is facing.

Re: The Weather
Seems you think the 'high school' boys should be out with the brooms and shovels , how about conscripting the dole dossers from under their duvets to do some of the clean up , lets call it work experience
You guys need someone like Mama Grizzly (Sarah Palin) , she didn't winge and moan when she was Gov. of Alaska she just sorted the problem.
Never heard such cry babies , we had over 6' of snow over the 'hill' (elevation 7200') into Nevada from California last night and the road is still open and the trucks are still rolling,

Re: The Weather
Trouble is SJ that a bit of snow over here causes major disruptions. Heathrow has been virtually closed since last Friday and there are major problems with the rail and road networks

Re: The Weather
And Labour did SUCH a good job of it in January now didn't they.....
Oh for a goldfish memory....
Infrastructure takes time to put in place and personal responsibility is a key factor. I put Winter Tyres on my car a couple of weeks ago and they difference in grip is night and day. even on frozen compacted snow getting up teh 1:4 hill to get off teh estate it just grips and goes. Walking round the car park at work ( which is a nice 1 mile stroll at lunch) the number of very expensive prestige cars driving round with nearly bald summer tyres on was daft. I'm not surprised that people get stuck, my only problem is they have a habit of blocking those of us that can get about.

Re: The Weather
Its typically British to argue amongst ourselves as to which political party is to blame, rather than concentrating on the real problems. It smacks of arguing how the deck chairs should be arranged on the deck of the Titanic.
Have you noticed how often over the past few years we have suffered "Once in 100 years" or "Once in 50 years" weather? It is time everyone woke up to the fact that extremes of weather are becoming more and more commonplace, whatever the cause.
Also, one of the biggest complaints from travellers is the woeful public relations displayed by airports, airlines and rail operators. A full review of information dissemination is needed, and if the big travel operators aren't prepared to put resources into it, they should be forced to do so.

Absolutely but how would you feel if the ConLib spent 300 million on severe winter defences only for it to be mild and wet.. then they would be castigated for spending money unnecessarily....
read this - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12042733
dammed if you do... springs to mind.

Re: The Weather
Any of you lot know what the M66 is like? I should be back in Manchester tomorrow where I intend doing a bit of shopping before going on to Accy, by either the X41 or if that's messed up, by train by either Blackburn or Preston.
