this feels weird!

well i must admit i'm quite used to going to bed at this time of the morning,
but getting up to go to work..............
that's a different matter altogether.
the things we do to make a living eh.
just wondering if anyone else has strange shift patterns or am i just blessed in some way
(i'm just glad it doesn't happen very often)

well that's the joys of rail replacement - yipeeeee

makes you wonder though - just lately on the news they have been preaching on about how rail travel has increased so much since the 80's (in connection with the whole environmental arguments)
yet just recently it seems most rail passengers end up travelling by road in a rail replacement coach.
still it pays my mortgage lol.

Just think how you're helping to save the planet from global warming when you're driving that rail replacement coach. Statistics will have you down as far more environmentally friendly than a bus.

Re: this feels weird!

In the past I have had some wierd shift starts and finishes and know what its like and the aggro it causes. As it was only for a few weeks due to lack of boddies to cover busy periodsit wasnt so bad. Mind you a 3am start I always thought was for bakers and mikmen and the odd bod late for a night shift. How many I wonder do or have done constant nightshift in the past?

Re: this feels weird!

I am currently on night shifts, I don't mind them once I get into the swing of it but it is the converting from nights back to days which kills me. It is like having constant jet lag.. and sometimes we have to do a quick turn around meaning that I may finish my nights at 8am on a Sunday morning and have to do the early shift at 7.30am on the Monday. I am fairly certain that those quick turnarounds are contravening the Euro Working Time Directive, but that's the NHS for you...

There has been plenty of research done into shift work in the past, mainly done in the USA. The studies found that the average shift worker dies, on average, 5 years earlier than non-shift workers (hence, shift allowances, they have to compensate you for your early death). I take comfort in knowing that I will be losing the last 5 years of my life, when, I won't remember my name, be peeing every time I cough and wishing I was dead any way...

Well i did 18 years on nights and loved it,
if you can call that constant

we had to come on days for a week to learn some new CNC machines and
most of the night shift fell asleep in the class.

Also when i got home i did not want my tea but would get up at 2 am and
anne would say where you going ?"to put the chip pan on" i was starving
