Time machine.
Where would you go back to, and why?
You can travel back in time, from yesterday, right back to the annals of time, be it the primeval swamp, or the garden of Eden, depending on your beliefs.
The only rule is that you can't change history. So sadly no backing yesterday's National winner, and no knocking off Hitler.
You can travel back to as many different times and places as you wish, though you might have to rejoin the back of the queue...and pay another pound.

Re: Time machine.
Um, that's an interesting question and the answer would depend on the where - for instance, if I got to go back to the 50s and was in Hollywood and met Dean Martin then I'd be thrilled, but if I went back to the 50s in Ossy I'm not sure I'd want to.

Re: Time machine.
My own first choice would be to find out what my grandfather was like. He was killed in Normandy in June 1944, whilst my granny was pregnant with my mum. We've only got photographs, and my granny could never really talk about him much, so I'd love to be able to have a conversation with him, and find out what sort of man he was.
Secondly, I'd go back to ancient Greece. I love the historical fact based novels of Mary Renault, and would love to have lived then...but only if I was rich. I'm too gobby to have been a good slave.
Lastly I'd go back to the early 1930's. I'd want to be British, but living in either Paris or Berlin, and be involved with the art scene there.

You can travel back to when and where you like.
I wouldn't let you go on a rubbish time machine.

Re: Time machine.
I didn't think you would Garinda!
Then in that case I choose the 50s, around the time of the original brat pack. I'd be in Las Vegas, (not Hollywood, what was I thinking). I'd meet Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jnr.

I'd quite fancy ancient Greece as well.

Re: Time machine.
I'd go back to a time when my paternal grandmother was alive...there would be so many gaps she could fill in for me with regards to the family tree.
I'd also go back to the night my Pa died...and instead of going home to my bed, as he insisted I do......I would have stayed with him......I would have told him all the things we never got to speak of.

Re: Time machine.
How many goes do we get?
I'd like to go back to mid-Victorian days, with entrée into Windsor Castle, to see if John Brown really was knocking off the queen and whether she was amused or not. I'd also like to go back a few decades earlier to Catterall/Calder Vale to see my great great grandfather who, from records we've traced, seems to have had about 12 children and spelled his surname at least 4 different ways when he registered their births. I would ask him if my maiden name really was Sleddon or should it have been Sladden, Slaiding or Sledding as he didn't seem able to make his mind up.
Finally, I'd jump forward nearly 100 years to see my dad's parents. His mother died in 1916 and his father in 1917, when dad was only 9 (middle one of 5 young brothers), and I've only seen a couple of photos of them. In one photo my grandfather is wearing a Grenadier Guards tunic and pillbox hat but my dad never knew if his father had been in the army and I'd love to ask him about it.

Re: Time machine.
I'd go back to 1900. I would love to experience life back then and see how people lived.

Re: Time machine.
I would like to be a fly on the wall with Marx and Engels, also to have lived during th era of Wilde's writings and to see if Zola's J'accuse letter was as shocking as my history teacher (Tony Robinson) said it was.

Re: Time machine.
Id go back to find out what both sets of grandparents were like and my uncle who was killed in the 2nd world war, then id go back to the 1800s to find out if the balls were really like, then to 1600s to see what it was like under cromwell, if it was as bad as what the history books say it was, and wouldnt mind a trip to discover america as well. I used to like history when i was at school..... until i got a rubbish teacher in the 4th and 5th year.

Re: Time machine.
I would like to go back to when micks parents were alive so i could have met them it would be nice to be able to put people with reference (so i could imagine the people who mick talked about!) and to go back to the week before my nan died when i didnt visit her in hospital, and to before my grandad died so i could have another chuckle with him.
I would like to visit the times when England was posh lol (like in mary poppins) if that ever really existed! humm but then i suppose for me it would be more like Oliver coz i would have come from the poorer end of the country! lol
But otherwise i would just have to say ever forward never back!
