Al Jolson was a good Jewish Man, colour and race has nothing to do with the thread, I for one am not racict, but i'm begining to wonder who is, the whites or the blacks?

Sammy Davis Jnr was Jewish and black (Jewish by conversion).

Al Jolson was a "Black and White Minstrel". His real name was Asa Yoelson.

Did anyone see that episode of Love Thy Neighbour, where Eddie thought Al Jolson was black?

Yes, Nigger.

That's Guy Gibson's dog's name in the film, not you Eric!

Re: Tintin book racist?

Actually, if anyone's interested in the 80th Anniversary of the Jazz Singer and in knowing more about the silent-to-sound transition in Hollywood, there's a cracking set coming to DVD in October. You'll need a multi-region player, but I would think most people have those now.

DVD Times - The Jazz Singer 80th Anniversary Edition (R1) in October

Won't interest many I wouldn't think, but it's got me drooling.

I wonder if the same fuss would have ensued if Tin Tins dog had been black instead of white?

Yes, because it would have been called Blackie then, instead of Snowy.

What if it had been black and white, would they have called it 'The Minstrel Show'.

No, it would then be called Michael.
