Today is Mother’s Day.

Today is Mother’s Day.
A day when we honour our Mum…or our Step Mum, or our Grandma.
Who ever it was you looked up to when you were growing up.

The woman whose hug could mend a cut lip, a bruised shin or a broken heart.

The woman you could tell your secrets to….who you knew would love you for who you are, whatever you had done…no matter what.
For those of you out there, who like me, no longer have a mum in their lives…just remember how she made you who you are.
How she cared, how she smiled…and how her face lit up when she saw your face.

To those mums who have lost a child….in whatever way, their day is poignant too…they are still a Mum.
To all those women who have lost touch with their children in whatever way…they too are still a Mum….a Mum with a heavy heart today and a tear in their eye.

For all those women who are still waiting to be a Mum….maybe nature is taking her time…or the right Daddy has not come along…today is for them too.
If you still have your Mum…..see her today…if you cannot see her phone, text, message her.
You really do not know how much it will mean to her.

These are MY thoughts…they might be soft and soppy, but they came from my heart because I would give anything to be able to hug my Mum today.

Now you can go back to your football talk

You’re not alone with those sentiments, Margaret.
But, if you’re lucky enough to still have your mum, any day should be reason to hug her.

Thank you for that comment Exile.
Yes, every day should be a day to celebrate your Mum.
Mine left us six years ago(it feels like yesterday) and the hole in my life is still there.
Yesterday I was a bit slushy thinking of her

Re: Today is Mother’s Day.

Margaret that was beautifully put. Mother’s Day in Australia is not until May but as someone said to me a little while ago, every day should be mothers’ day. I hope that those fortunate to still have their mothers gave them at least a big hug or phoned them on that day.

Thank you Dotti and yes Cashy I know you read my posts and I like to think that they are worth reading.
I have been posting on here (like you) for a long time.
I really do miss not seeing the posts written by others…not having other posts to respond to.
But hey ho that is life I suppose.

Re: Today is Mother’s Day.

Nice post

I booked Friday and Monday off so i could be at Jennifer's and have a long weekend and not be at work the day after mother's day.

Mother's day is hard for me 7 years on

26th march 2017. My mother passed away from cancer. It was mother's day.

Also M thanks for listening(reading) back when my mother died and the struggles that followed. As you know I suppressed my grief and work paid for bereavement counselling.

I heard an analogy and can't remember where.

The paid of this loss is like a sharp object inside a balloon. The balloon is expanding over time. At first there is not much room inside that balloon and that sharp object is bouncing around the inside causing pain. Over time the balloon gets a lot bigger and that sharp object is floating around and may just hit the sides when you least expect it to.

Short version. The pain of loss never goes away but it does get easier

Re: Today is Mother’s Day.

Thank you Rob. I lost my Mum in 2018.
I like your analogy…but I have another that I use.
I have a Ma shaped hole in my life…it is big and deep. We avoid the hole at first. But sometimes we go to see if it is still there and if it is still as deep.
Those are the times we fall.
Grief is not something you ‘get over’…you just get better at dealing with it.

Jen, I still talk to mine and ask her advice.
I dream about her and feel lifted when I have dreamed of her.
I don’t think we ever get over the loss of someone who gave us our personality, our essence, our ethic or our compass.
We just get better at hiding the sadness.
