Today's dumb cooking question
On a similar theme to the greaseproof paper question - which side of the tin foil should you put closest to the food - the shiny side or the dull side?

Never noticed it was different
Then again I've never used it, just seen it wrapped around meat in the kitchen

Re: Today's dumb cooking question
I have always put the dull side to the food, but I'm not sure if it's right or not..

Re: Today's dumb cooking question
actually, thinking about it, i only use tim foil to bake spuds and the shiniest bit is always on the outside.....but i think thats only cos thats how it comes off the roll......
unroll some on your surface, put your food on and then cut to fit....... makes sense!

Re: Today's dumb cooking question
I always line my grill tray with tin foil - makes it easier to clean, and I put it shiny side up as I thought it reflected the heat better.

Shiny side up when it lines the grill pan but dull side to the food when wrapping.

Although this practice is probably widespread I was told years ago never to do it. Can't remember exactly why, maybe a fire risk or something, but it must have stuck 'cos I never do!!

Re: Today's dumb cooking question
I'd never make any money - I'd be too busy telling my customers they needed to be at school or work or somewhere else!
