train fares
Right i'm after going up to Edinburgh with Reece, i checked the train fares out on National Rail Enquiries and from Blackburn to Edinburgh (with a family railcard) its £43 return.......BUT....... if i buy 2 seperate tickets (one from Blackburn to Preston, Preston to Edinburgh)it will only cost me around £27 and thats if i want to go tomorrow, not booking in advance...£4 odd to Preston return and then £22 odd from Preston to Edinburgh return....go figure ...it just goes to show how much people are being over charged, those who don't know its cheaper sometimes to buy 2 tickets

Re: train fares
If I have to change I always check the 2 sepearte prices, they usually are cheaper.
They also have whats called a Duo. Don't know if its for anywhere, but when I went to Manchester last week it should have been £11.20 each return but with this Duo thing it was £10.50 return for 2 of us!!

How do you find out about it? Do you just ask at ticket office?

Re: train fares
My cousin had used it the week before so we just asked the conductor when we were paying for our tickets on the train, but i'm sure they'd explain it to you at the ticket office.

Re: train fares
I cant complain £26 to get from Falkirk to Accy and back. Looking for advanced tickets and odd travel times help. These tickets are only a small percentage but as flashy and lolly say splitting the journey can be a nice cheap trip away.

the duo's have been going for a few years now, they are worth it, its also worth forking out £20 a year for a family railcard, Reece gets 60% off his fare and i get 1/3 off mine, they are excellent

When you look online at the prices they say it might be cheaper to buy singles. They failt to tell you one single is nearly the same price as a return otherwise

Re: train fares
i know, thats why i have a railcard, i go everywhere with it, and like i said, it only costs me £20 a year, in the last year ive been to........ Newcastle, York, Leeds, London, Felixstowe, Halifax, Bradford, Blackpool, Morcambe, Carlisle, Manchester, Preston and on several other short train rides, i save a fortune, it actually works out cheaper for me to take Reece with me than go anywhere on my own(cos you can only use a family railcard when you have a child with you) it cost £9 odd for me to get to Blackpool on my own, but if i take Reece with me it only costs £8.95
if you have a family and dont have a car, i would highly recommend getting one of these
