Re: Trick or Treaters?
Hehehe... I knew there would be some advantages to working late yesterday. I got home at 21.45 and I had missed them all, what a shame.

Re: Trick or Treaters?
Not impressed up our neck of the woods;we had the pumpkin lit and the house trimmed up ,my little one went out as a very convincing vampiress after we had already about 4 lots of trick or treaters round and she came back with virtually nowt as the tight wads round here weren't answering their doors! I gave out just under a fiver's worth of sweets and have done for the past 4 years;and answered the door every time! Some folk just need to lighten up a bit;not every knock on the door is an evil hoodie;don't think even one of ours last night was in their teens! Grrrrr.

Re: Trick or Treaters?
Glad I was at the footy.
For me it's a stupid tradition, just like valentines. Just a commercial load of tripe.

Re: Trick or Treaters?
Bought a tin of quality street and no-one came knocking. First year in ages there's been no trick or treaters.

Re: Trick or Treaters?
Halloween is a bit of a money making thing now like Shakermaker said, but it is good to do something different, to dress up or whatever. I've been to two fancy dress do's Halloween related and to the footy dressed up in black with spiders drawn on my face! But I never do anything for the kids when they come knocking, last year we hid in the back room with the lights off (scrooges that we are), but this year was at the Stanley v Blackpool game so missed the lot of them. You never know, next year I might get more into the swing of things.

Re: Trick or Treaters?
I was on my way home from 2 weeks in Malta last night but I know my granddaughter, aged 7, went round our street with 4 friends, her mum and another mum. Laura was dressed as a witch as was one neighbour, whose children are now in their 30s, who had dressed up for the occasion to join in the fun.
To the children it was an exciting evening to dress up and collect a few sweets. They got some money too, Laura's share was about £2, but that wasn't really the point. The whole thing was about being out in the dark, dressing up and having a great time. They weren't bothered whether they were given anything or not, it was innocent fun and they just wanted a smile.
In recent years I've had plenty of visits on Hallowe'en. The kids are always accompanied by parents and I've always kept a stock of sweets and pretended to be scared stiff by miniature ghouls and skeletons and always been rewarded by a muttered "Thank you" as they shuffled off down the drive. Perhaps I'm lucky, living where I do, that we don't get horrible teenagers on the make. Only once, about 20 years ago, did we have that. My son was still at home and answered the door to 2 teenaged girls who said "Trick or treat". He said he'd have the trick. Half an hour later a note was pushed through the letterbox, it said, "Here's your trick - Asshole". That was the worst it got.
