Why start a new thread for this? You usually put this kind of stuff into the tories thread, don't you?

Re: twenty first century britain
This has been happening in London for a number of years.
Most of the shed dwellers are migrants from eastern Europe.
The problem arose when Labour agreed to an open borders policy.
Subsequently three million people migrated into Britain, in the thirteen years Labour were in power.
No figure is known for those who entered the country illegally, under the same time scale.
More than three million migrants under Labour - Telegraph
These aren't Britons, who've lost their homes.
They are economic migrants, who decided to relocate to one of the most expensive cities in the world, and who've decided life at the bottom of someone's garden, is preferable to living in eastern Europe.
London's streets might not be paved with gold.
But with our generous welfare system, it is seen by some as the Land of Milk and Honey.
We make choices.
They have.

What is your solution ?

Re: twenty first century britain
I'd have love a shed in leafy Hampstead, when I first moved to London.
I was forced to live in Streatham.
Try getting a cab to take you south of the river, late on.
That was real degradation.

When I lived in Glasgow, 2001-2004, at which time I believe we had a Labour government, there were tons of people living under the bridges over the Clyde.
They'd have loved a nice warm shed, situated in the balmy metropolis, to live in.
They only had smack, and the warmth of their own wee-wee, to keep them snug.

Re: twenty first century britain
Now we know where hundreds of illegal immigrants are is it beyond the wit of the Metropolitan Police and Border Agency to round them up and send them home- it looks like they might be better off there.
Interesting that they said they were being ripped off and exploited by people from their own country-any comment, cmon?

It was a struggle, but I just got on with it.
Though it was in the glitzy mansion of a millionaire friend of my parents.
Ossy lad done good, on the back of filth.
But still, Streatham!
Cynthia Payne popping round to borrow the hose pipe...for God knows what.
Never knowing if you'd wake up to find Lord Montague of Beaulieu chatting to Alan Bates, perched on the end of your bed...again.
Not knowing if that Paul Grady might be loitering in the kitchen, with Michael Cashman and Ian McKellen.
Six years I suffered.
I couldn't wait until I moved out.
To Tooting.

Re: twenty first century britain
People save up round here, and hope they live long enough, to live in a shed, down the Ribble Valley.
Or as they call them, retirement village chalets.
