Why should any pub close because of the introduction of Wetherspoons ?
They just attract more punters to town.
As for The Railway .. not the same clientele there methinks, however, may attract a few younger generation on the back of Wetherspoons . so, although Cashman by name, feel would lose this status name on yer bet... x

Two points there:
1) Evidence from elsewhere points to two or three pubs closing whenever a Wetherspoons opens in the locality. However, Wetherspoons are now downsizing their new openings - they are no longer going for big old banks or cinemas but refurbishing existing pubs, such as the Commercial. So the effect may just be one or two pubs closing, rather than two or three.
2) You're being very generous to the drinkers in the Railway in referring to them as 'clientele'. I can think of various words to describe them, but that one is not one of them.

Re: Two More Pubs Close
Wetherspoons wont beat the pubs near by on price, pubs in that area will still be cheaper....its just that it looks a nice place and is new to everyone. Now the Calder offering food also is the one that is will be in really DEEP trouble.
whats hapened to the commercial wetherspoons thread by the way?
do we need a new one ?
