Re: uncle sentenced.....

FAO Willow and Accymel - he will serve half his sentence in custody and will be released on an "at risk" licence and serve the remainder of his sentence in the community. Parole doesn't come into it. If you are sentenced under the 1991 Criminal Justice Act you are only parole eligible if you receive a sentence of 4 years or more. Under the 2003 CJA, the only sentences that are parole eligible are extended sentences for public protection. Hope that helps to partly explain the very complicated criminal justice system in this country.

You leave it alone, as much as you want, ignore the truth if that is your state of mind, but leaving children alone is negligence and should not be excused no matter who you are.

I still want the child returned safely, but why should this Uncle be persecuted on here for a mistake when this situation could also happen to almost anyone with a dog.

So far as I understand the Grandmother faught against the dog, at least she was there to attempt to stop what happened unlike other so called 'responsible' parents.

Re: uncle sentenced.....

resurecting this thread , what are your thoughts about the Grandmother being aquitted ?
BBC NEWS | UK | England | Merseyside | Woman cleared of dog attack death

seems she has also done jail time for a past conviction for heroin possession, but this was not allowed to be mentioned as it may have been predjucial

Re: uncle sentenced.....

I agree Kiel Simpson should have been given a much harsher sentence for creating a dangerous dog, which is what he did. He, like all his type, reared the dog to be a vicious fighter and an extension to his own warped ego as he swaggered around with it.

His mother should have been charged with, at the very least, complicity in as much as she ever allowed her son to raise the dog in the way he did and allowed it to live on her premises.

The child's parents should also have been charged with negligence because they were fully aware of the dog's nature but were quite happy to leave their child with only a door between it and the dog. They also knew that the grandmother was a drug user and not the most responsible person with whom to leave a child but, if local gossip is true, that would not matter a great deal to them.

Incidentally, the child's father has condemned the grandmother for the attack but is still, apparently, on good terms with drug dealer Kiel Simpson, who was a coffin bearer at the child's funeral.

Re: uncle sentenced.....

Was she really acquitted? She has to live with this for the rest of her life. She has to live with the thought that she let the dog into the house and he killed her granddaughter.

Fair enough but if she knew she was caring for her grand-daughter she should have laid off the booze and dope!!

I'm not doubting for one minute it is true just haven't heard/read all of the details. She should never have had the dog there in the first place IMO.

Re: uncle sentenced.....

Would I leave a small child in the care of a boozed and spliffed up woman, who has an already dangerous dog on the premises?

No.

I think morally this poor child's parents, grandmother and uncle are all guilty of neglect.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Even without a dog anything could have happened to the child whilst the Grandmother was drugged up to the eyeballs.
