Various Accrington Nicknames!
Okay guys, just asked for a clarification for the nickname scousers. Thought I'd broaden it for other nickname Accrington folks have for surrounding Counties, Villages, Boroughs, Councils.
Also, what do these other localities referred to Accringtonians as?
Brian

How about Americans = Yanks = Septic Tanks.
Burnley: Dingles
Birmingham: Brummies
Newcastle: Geordies
Scotland: Jocks
Wales: Taffies

I tend to use 'Merkins' for Americans as it comes from another group I have frequented for >10 years

Re: Various Accrington Nicknames!
Scouser is a Liverpool born and bred, with a great sense of humour, most of our best comedians/comediens hail from mersyside, anyone on the fringes is a woolyback. A question to all you so called Accringtonians, "how many of you can rightly claim that you were born within the Borough"? I suspect not many of you, unless it was at Rough Lee that would include those around 40 years of age, so we will discount them, the last page of the birth register goes back only app 10 years and there is room for more.

Re: Various Accrington Nicknames!
Those who were born in my adopted home village, here in Cheshire, are called "Greys". Nobody seems to know exactly why but we think it has something to do with horses.
Warrington, not far from here and the place where I work, has a name for people from Wigan - Pie Eaters.

People from Burnley also refer to Wiganers as Pie Eaters. Not allowed to swear so can't tell you what Blackburnians are called

Re: Various Accrington Nicknames!
That's all very interesting (minus the Yank = Septic Tank ). Now how many of those terms are derogatory?
Like if we refer to an Irishman as a Mick, it's not takien too kindly but a Paddy is more exceptable. As I'm sure I stated before, I was raised thinking it was "The Bloody Irish!" Didn't go well with my Irish pals! We wont even start on what we refer to our Italian friends/neighbors as.

Re: Various Accrington Nicknames!
Unfortunately Brian we have a problem here. As citizens of the UK we can refer to other areas of the UK with any term we use, however if we start saying what we call citizens of other countries we will be arrested for racism
