While it is a good citizens duty to vote...and yes I know that some women gave their lives so that we could have this privilege, I do think that it has to be acknowledged that a large section of the electorate are feeling disconnected from politics. Whose fault is that do you think?
You have the right to withdraw your labour if you feel that your employer is giving you a raw deal........and I think you should be able to decide to withold your vote.......especially when the current range of candidates for leadership are so poor and appear(to me, at any rate )to be lacking in backbone.
I seriously considered not using my vote today.
So what stopped me from exercising this right? My daughter did......so if you saw me being frog marched to the polling station on Barnes St......why didn't you come to my aid?
It is a good job daughter couldn't come into my polling booth......or I would have been made to rub out all those funny faces.

Who-ever gets in today is in for a very rocky ride....and that means that we'll also be in for a turbulent time too.

Re: Voting

margaret if she'd gone into the polling booth with you the vote wouldnt have counted .. as its a secret ballot and no one is allowed to be in the polling booth with you

You're welcome to enter the polling station with a friend, says Connelly. But voting is a private matter so you must be alone when you go into the polling booth and mark a cross on the ballot paper. If you have any questions about the procedure, polling station staff will be happy to help.

If on the other hand, you have a disability, or are unable to read the ballot, and cannot vote on your own, the presiding officer can help. A family member or friend could be permitted to accompany and assist.

BBC News - What can you NOT do in a polling station?

I know jen....and pretty glad I was that she was not allowed to come in with me...though it would have been quicker...crosses are easier to do than faces...especially one with horns on

Re: Voting

Well, I timed my drugs, and have been to vote.

I've voted for the people who I think will best serve the constituency, and the ward, that I live in.

I'm ignoring party politics, as I'm disilusioned with the lot of them. Especially after Brown showing his true feelings about those that have put him in the position he's in. He's so out of touch with reality it's sickening.

I voted for the two people who are the most passionate about the area, and who understand, and have an in depth knowledge of the pros and cons we have.

I voted for Graham Jones, and Peter Britcliffe.

So all the doubting Thomases, who didn't believe I really am non-partisan, stick that it your pipe...and smoke it.

Re: Voting

Right, off to the boozer now for my "float the vote" session. If I can remember where it is, I intend to wend my way to the polling station around 9.50 tonight. What happens then is anybody's guess...

Re: Voting

Although it was 'rush hour', I suppose, the polling station was quite busy when I went.

It was heartening to see five young lads, excitedly casting their first votes.

Be interesting to see the turn-out, after all the apathy and anger we earlier had re: the expenses scandal.
