The jury will be out for some time on the present incumbents, but allowance does have to be made for the unholy mess created by the Blair/Brown combination.
What really confuses me is that Blair did not think that Brown could be either a good PM or a good leader of the Labour Party - his words, yet he appointed him as his successor.
Was he attepting to obfuscate the situation by appointing Brown, knowing that he would be seen as a worse Premier than he had been. As MargaretP said - Smoke & Mirrors.
Many people will remember - for a very long time, the continuing cost in human lives through his actions, the scandals of their property deals, the openly money grabbing actions of his wife - IMHO a coyote girl.
Slink away Mr Blair - the greatest thing you can do for this country - and take dipstick with you.

You are all alone on this one my friend ! If you look at the comments I think the judgements have already been made & that is from across the spectrum of political persuasions.

As to your second point - He did ! If all those who are coming out of the woodwork now are to be believed, it appears most of his compatriots were against the war & told him so in no uncertain terms, but guess what ! We ended up embroiled in this travesty because he wanted it to appease his mate in the White house & profligate the "Special relationship"

Great Man ? I really don't think so.

Anyone would believe that Tony Blair single-handedly took the country to war. Frankly, it’s getting boring.

Tony Blair was a great Prime Minister. It was absolutely the right decision to remove Saddam from power. Granted, he may not have had WMD anymore, but he had used them before on his own people and against Iran. I don’t think Blair lied at all, perhaps sometimes the simplest explanation is the truth: the intelligence was wrong.
Blair was instrumental in bringing peace to NI and successfully intervening in Sierra Leone and Kosovo. He won 3 general elections with landslides. Truly a great man.”
Well they say you can't fool all the people all of the time, don't really need to bother with you, gullibility personified. Notice he never bothered to pop over to Zimbabwe and get ride of the evil tow rag there, but of course there's no oil there.

I think you're right, history will be kind to him. The Tories generally don't like him because no matter which leader they chose, they couldn't lay a glove on him.

I've got news for you, Bernard, there's FAR more than just the Tories who don't like him. Quite a lot in your own party for a start, not to mention vast swathes of the general public. The responses on this thread should tell you something!

Well I reckon that is true.. I'd say the only difference between Blair, Thatcher and John Major concerning wars is that The Falkland war and the first war against Saddam ended in victory...the second war with Iraq is on hold and not yet won.. Afghanistan is a long term war that is lead by NATO... as for Blair it maybe a hard pill to swallow, but if he had stayed for another election we would not have this hell bent on destruction Tory Government we have endend up with.

Re: Want to Throw Up

I'll say Blair was the worse Prime Minister since Chamberlian when it comes to foriegn affairs..but he did have an impact on the recovery of this country which is now forgotten.. he was wrong to go to war in Iraq and he was wrong to defend Isreal on the attack on Lebanon.. but he was right to introduce the minimum wage and was right to increase the NHS spending.. take yer chioce .

What a pity he just threw money at the NHS in order to make cheap headlines. The end result is huge swathes of bureacracy, red tape, quangos and a ruinously expensive IT system which doesn't deliver. If only that money had been spent on patient care.

One hell of a big difference Mancie old chap the Falklands was British Sovereign Territory, invaded by a foreign aggressor and was totally justified

No need to add to that Wyn, but throwing money at any problem has always been Labours way, that's why we're so much in debt

And from personal experience(I worked in that organisation).......How I echo your thoughts of the money being spent on patient care....instead of another useless layer of management to achieve government driven targets that meant nothing.

Money and opportunites to help ordinary people wasted.
