Re: Wanted 35,000 livers per year.

No, I don't agree, they should advertise it where they want, and every pub should have tables on the streets, along with all the cafe's, something your main street in accy is missing, tables outside premises. Whats the point in pedestrianising if your not going to be able to use the space.

I assume that your facetious comment is made with your tongue firmly in your cheek Madhatter.

If it isn’t then I assume that you will take the responsibility for all the ills that alcohol brings and the underage drinking that goes on.

Re: Wanted 35,000 livers per year.

Dosnt mater if they changed the law for those who wanted drink would find a way of getting it. The age of which you can purchase it is a nonesense because unless there is genuine ID proof then they get someone else old enough to by it or as Tesco put it;

" If you are lucky enough to look under 21 please do not be offended if we ask your age."

Irony is at this stage girls want to look old enough to buy drink get into clubs yet 10 years later want to look young enough to just pass and no more.

There is a girl of 14, the niece of a nieghbour who when done up looks in here 20's because she is 5' 10" and has no problem getting drink dispite it is harming her liver etc.

Like smoking drinking is the personal choice of some and the argument over ciggies applies here.

Re: Wanted 35,000 livers per year.

That will actually reduce underage drinking in my opinion.
The only reason underage drinking is so rife in this country is because of the silly licencing laws. No other country, that has always had all day drinking and cafe bars has the drink related problems of this country.

Sorry Hatter got to disagree with your reasoning. It is considered to be cool hip and one of the gang for underage teens to be steamboats at the weekend. Looking at who the role models are for them answers it all.

Re: Wanted 35,000 livers per year.

Of course they do because weekend binge drinking is ingrained in the english as a way of life, they even go on special trips abroad to do it. Thats been bought about because this country has insisted on hanging on to archaic laws that told us we can only drink between certain hours.
Getting people to get away from the idea that the purpose of alcohol is just to get absolutely out of their mind will be a very difficult thing to do, but it's got to be done.
They need to start promoting it as a recreational drink, to be drunk sensibly at any time of the day, like a cup of tea, like they do abroad. Thats the manufacturers, suppliers, sellers, licencers, towns, councils.

Our pub trade needsd a new direction too, and this is the way to go, but it needs doing right. Just opening longer won't do the trick, but with other things it will work eventually.
