Welcome to Huncoat

Whos' idea was it to build a brick wall opposite to the Texaco garage in Huncoat saying "Welcome to Huncoat" I thought that the council were short of money.

Re: Welcome to Huncoat

no no you misunderstand councils are only short of money when it is needed for things of actual use and importance but theres an endless bucket of wealth for trivial and lunartic ideas

unless of course the wall was built and paid for free of charge by voulenteers ,do you know who funded it ?

Re: Welcome to Huncoat

Huncoat became part of Accrington c 1928. At that time, Clayton, Altham & Church rejected the idea.

Re: Welcome to Huncoat

I noticed it the other day, no idea how long it has been there as I don't often pass that way.

I quite liked it and can have half a guess who was involved with it.

Re: Welcome to Huncoat

took them a while to build it completely the stone around it has been there a while - i do like it myself and the idea behind it - but do agree the money could of been spent on more useful things

Do you know what it cost and who paid for it?

What would you have spent the money on?
