It was his first General Election in long trousers.
He might have better luck predicting the next one.

Re: Well done, Graham Jones!
Congratulations Graham, never had any doubts at the result.
Now you with the big boys, sure you will rise to it.

Re: Well done, Graham Jones!
In honour of Graham's magnificent victory, I have written another poem:
On a cold Thursday night in May
The people of Hyndburn had their say
On who will be their man in London Town
To support – or not – Mr Gordon Brown
So they went along and put their cross
(But not all – some didn’t give a toss)
And then came the count
The Tories had 5000 to surmount
Alas, it was not to be
They failed – miserably!
Now the man called Graham Jones
As left the opposition with lots of moans
Never mind – Tuesday he’s off on the train
(First Class, with lots of Champagne)
From Euston he will proceed to take his seat
And start to examine the country’s balance sheet
Which we all know, is not very nice
As all of us will have to pay the price
Another masterpiece, although I say it myself.

I remember your last attempt at prose so, for sensitive folk like me, I've edited it just a touch.

Philistine that I am, I think Less's version has a certain something that I find a little more satisfying, I feel more inspired by it. You do still have the Day job don't you Tealeaf ? Wouldn't like to see you go hungry now would we !!

Re: Well done, Graham Jones!
Congratulations from across the pond ... and when you look at the national results, see the bright side: if the tories couldn't win this one, with a lame duck (or at least, unpopular) PM, unpopular foreign military adventures, scandals almost daily, economy going down the tubes, unpopular immigration policies, etc., then you have to look at this as a Labour victory ... in the circumstances, your job as a member of Her Majesty's Opposition becomes all that much more important.

Not only Swallows are around this time of year.. looks like Cameron was pretty "Swift" to offer the Lib Dems a deal on proportional representation(big words) ...and dirty words to the Tories..Cameron comes out as the biggest "creep"
