Re: Well known
I see a lot when I'm travelling, famous people seem to hang around a lot in airports.
The only famous person I've probably met and had a conversation with is Howard Marks, most people probably have never heard of him, but I had and I'd just read his book about a month or so before so I felt like I knew him. If I remember rightly we where both delayed in brussels thanks to that old pants airline that was sabena. I have since met him twice here in moscow at a couple of bars...
I have vague memories of meeting dennis taylor and a few others at a snooker tournament at Hyndburn sports centre..
And there is another one, but my memory is pants so I can't remember the name, some famous american rock bloke headlined at a festival in moscow and he came to my local first and we ended up with tickets to the mosh pit!

Re: Well known
Is Howard Marks the reformed Welsh drug dealer? If it is I read his autobiography and it was brilliant. A very interesting life.

I was at that snooker tournament as well. I was on my first (and last) date with a boy and we were sat at the back. We were getting on so well that at one point Dennis Taylor actually shouted up to us to shut up! Ooops! Sorry!

Re: Well known
I met Jasper Carrot before he became famous, when he was doing the Folk Clubs. I also knew the actor Ian McShane, when we were both children, as my dad was friendly with his dad, the footballer Harry McShane.
Older members may remember a BBC radio sports reporter, in the 1950s, called Tom Naseby who had a wonderful "dark brown" voice. My dad knew him and he came to our house one New Year. I was so disappointed that this man, whose voice made him sound like a film star, was short, fat and balding. He looked a lot like Norris Cole from Corrie - but fatter.
In my job I met a lot of the actors who were in "Brookside" on Channel 4 (Barry Grant was a sweetheart and "Sinbad" became almost a mate) and I was on "Good Morning" terms with Bobby Charlton when he used to live in our village. We have Matthew Corbett (Sooty) here now and he's a nice bloke. I also stood next to Johnny Briggs (Mike Baldwin) in our post office when he lived here. He's a lot better looking than on the telly, but very short!
My daughter had a brief conversation with Jimmy Tarbuck in the Trafford Centre, when she accidentally elbowed him in the gut, and my son knows Stuart Hall very well. Dennis Taylor used to live 3 doors away from one of my brothers.
My biggest claim to fame is my mother's cousin's cousin. She was the actress Patrice Wymore and was married to Errol Flynn. Unfortunately, I never met her.

Re: Well known
When I lived in Scotland the first Christmas I was working for a jewellers and I sold a Gucci ring to Colin and Justin, that camp pair of interior designers from Channel 5. The following year I was managing an adult store and they came in to purchase an anotomically correct replica of a porn star's appendage, complete with handy suction attachment on the base. They did laugh when I reminded them of this compared with their purchase the previous year.
I was a little disappointed, when I recently watched a programme were they did up Christine and Neil Hamilton's flat, not to see what they'd bought happily swinging, suction cupped onto the window of the pairs lovely home.

Re: Well known
Wow this is a name dropping thread, all these famous people I have spent a night drinking with Billy Connolly, the next day was .................I also had a couple of swift ones with Mike Harding an up and coming comedy act that may take off one day.....he wrote Napoleons retreat from Wigan before we went to the bar and continued editing as we drank, as you can imagine it was a funny night. Good old folk scene days.

If you're talking about the Rochdale Cowboy, currently presenting Radio 2's folk programme, I went to school with him..... we used to cycle about ten miles, detouring through Piccadilly (the Manchester one), & then Moss Side, just to see how many 'Ladies of the night' we could spot en-route!

Re: Well known
Ouch! - I have to say I have met a lot over the years, partly because such a lot of them live in London, and partly because of the job.
My daughter went out with a Beastie Boy - Adroc (Adam) for a while, then with a well-known DJ, then with Flavor Flav - they had to hide her on the tour bus because they were a Black Power group and it wouldn't do for FF to have a white, red-haired, girlfriend. Both of them were very polite and charming, very different from the stage image. Also, my daughter used to work for Prince Charles in polo, so got a nod from him and a smile from Diana (whom the polo girls loved, because she was so ordinary and nice).
Sort of met Princess Anne when she asked me to hold her horse's foot as I was walking past her at a horse do.
Met George Best in the Phene Arms a few times, later came to know his second wife, Alex, very well.
My ex used to work for Columbia Pictures, so met quite a number of people at their dos - even Rock Hudson once!
And, of course, I also know Garinda!
