Re: Well, they let me in

I know, that reaction is an old one from when the non-red-bricks used to be polytechnics.

Just a side note though - entry grades are due to demand, not linked with standard of courses at all.
So if many people want to go to Manc Met or Leeds Met because of being close to home/the nightlife/whatever, the grades go up because the demand is high, not nevessarily because the course itself is sought after.

Re: Well, they let me in

For instance, I'm going to Aberdeen which ranks higher for my course than University of Manchester. However, because the demand is low at Aberdeen due to it's out in the sticks location, the entry grades were CCC compared to Manchester's AAB.

Aberdeen is booming at the present, ‘bout the only place not feeling the effects of a looming recession.

Have a ball but take yer balaclava, it's always bloody cold there

Unless of course it is Southampton Solent... then the grades do actually reflect the negative aspects through and through Higher grade standards are also set to attract the bette quality students rather than all the rabble. It'd be wrong to say it is all on demand for the location of the uni, but of course that is a part of it.
