Well, would you?

I read something in one of the newspapers today about somewhere in Essex (I think) that has been marrying couples over the last three years and they have just found out that they were not licensed to do so.
All the couples who were married at this venue are now being told that they are not legally married.
If that were you, would you exit your partnership without a backward glance.....or would you go through another ceremony with your beloved to make things legal?

Yes, the paper brought out those two scenarios....apparently the case is going to be referred to the High Court.

Come on folks 'fess up....would you hitch yourself up the same partner again?

If they had got wed in a Church like your supposed to do, or a regisitrars office , they wouldn't be having this problem.

It isn't the fault of the couples though, they 'married' in good faith.......somebody at the venue made a monumental mistake in not renewing the licence to perform marriages.

No and never again!! One burning is enough without being daft enough to do it again. Feel sorry for those caught up in it though.

Sorry Margaret, if the earlier post sounded a bit sarcastic , didn't mean to , they were probably at some place that offers 'theme' weddings , like those places in Las Vegas where the 'minister' is either Elvis an ordained minister in the Church of Rock and Roll , or else he is Spock from Star Trek, a minister in the Intergalactic Heavenly Choir,

Yes HR......but the story I read didn't have as much detail, and it made it sound as though the couples were still waiting for a High Court verdict.

Re: Well, would you?

No Steeljack it didn't sound sarcastic at all.......and there are a lot of very tasteful venues......stately homes, castles and the like over here, that have licences to conduct marriages. For some people who don't go to church or have very religious beliefs, it is an acceptable alternative to the Register Office ceremony.
I was married at the Haslingden register office some 40 years ago......what a dismal place that was....not somewhere you could remember fondly, but it was either that or the church...and I didn't want to be hypocritical.

Or then again I might just decide to play the field....except I can't think that there would be many old fellers out there who would want to play in my field

It's not really 'going back' to the partner because you never 'left' the partner.
Marriage is only a piece of paper afterall.

Shakermaker.....I didn't ask if you would go back....I asked if you would take your chance to exit the partnership.....to, in effect, become single again.....or would you 'marry' the person you thought you HAD married.
