Re: What a cheek!!!
Yup i put mine out night before too about 11pm cos you never know what time they are going to arrive sometimes its been 7.30am then 8.30 am even been as late as 2pm i dont see what the problem is if you put your bin out before the bin van comes seems stupid to put a pointless notice on....fair do's if you do actually miss the van but no need to if you dont.

Re: What a cheek!!!
Being retired and thus not having the need to go to work I have no need to get up with the rest of the herd. I can wake up at any time of the morning be it 8:00am or noon or any time in between. So I’m darned if I am going to set my alarm so that I can get up to put my bin out at 7:30am.
I put my wheelie bin out the evening before it is due to be emptied and so do most people round my way. No one has complained so far but I know what the answer will be if they do. Forum etiquette prevents me from stating what that answer will be.
However there is one drawback with putting the bins out the night before. If you listen carefully during the early hours of a morning you may hear a commotion outside. A quick look from behind the lace curtains will reveal the wheelie bins pushing and shoving each other in an attempt to be the first in the queue to be emptied. Sometimes this kafuffle can get so violent that one bin will end up flat on its back with its lid open gasping for breath and its innards spilled out onto the road.
Whatever happened to co-operation?

Re: What a cheek!!!
Always put mine out the night before and the same for blue box collection as they come at....7:15 here for that and wake every one up! I do know that one of the bin chaps has to walk down the backs making sure all the bins are facing the right way[a challenging job by the sound of it] so maybe he dobbed you in for being late Lettie!

Re: What a cheek!!!
My biggest gripe is when they have emptied the bin they just dump it on the pavement.they dont even care whether its outside the right house or not..

Re: What a cheek!!!
I do try to put out my bin the night before, but I will struggle taking it to the bottom of the alley in winter when I get up in the evening. It is really dark in our alley and I am not prepared to risk my personal safety wheeling my bin down there in the dark.
The reason that I was caught out was that I hadn't wheeled my bin down the alley. I was still in my pjs and I left it outside my back yard door until I got dressed. When I went out to shift it a few minutes later, it was gone. I assumed that one of the neighbours had taken it for me but it was probably the bin man.......hence the notice.

Re: What a cheek!!!
Why should you have to wheel it to the bottom anyway. Did you have to put your bags at the bottom before.
Write to them them and inform them you will only wheel it to the bottom if they write to you taking all responsibility wheeling THEIR bin down THEIR back street. After all 2 weeks rubbish can be very heavy.

Re: What a cheek!!!
round my way they leave the wheelie bins in teh middle of teh road or half on half off teh pavement , the road is already narrow and to top it off it is a bus route as well
anyone remember when bin men atualy grafted and deserved the wages they got , i certainly remember watchin bin men cary 2 full steel bins and tip them into the bin waggon then return them to the special hole in teh wall that most terraced houses used to have
now the bins are lifted by hydrolics all they have to do is drag the bin to the lift , the bins even has bloody wheels on now for christs sake so why cant they put them back propper

Must admit GrannyClaret, they always put my bin back down the drive where I keep them .. only occasionally do I have to get out of my car to move it aside. I will praise them on this.

Re: What a cheek!!!
There is obviously a lot of difference in binmen. Some are more jobsworths than others. What happened to the days when people actually tried to be helpful to each other rather than make life as difficult as possible?

Re: What a cheek!!!
the only drawback with putting them out the night before is other folk putting their rubbish in YOUR bin !
I put mine out one night and forgot about a bag of rubbish so I went out before I set off to work - opened my back gate and 4 black bags of rubbish fell on to me ! - someone had kindly place their rubbish on top of my bin which fell into my back garden..I simply grabbed the bags and put them against the bins already lined up outside..cheeky feckers...

You know neil you have hit the nail on the head!!!!
They brought these wheelie bins in because of health and safety regulations on the Dust bin mens back problems having to life heavy bags.
What about our health and safety?? In Letties case she has to walk down a DARK back alley on her own, RISK?? YES..........
Heavy bin with 2 weeks rubbish?? RISK?? YES
Slippy pathing when wet Risk?? YES
HELLO!!!! where is our health and safety??
HBC are taking the P*ss not just the house hold rubbish every week.
Sometimes I feel like ringing them up and telling them to deduct the cost of my rubbish collection that I pay................... I will take my own rubbish to the TIP in huncoat, at what ever time I feel it suitable and I will take tins, paper, cardboard ect.... all at the same time, Not one lot on a monday, then another lot on a thursday ect.........

Yeh, 'tis cheeky without asking... I have invited my neighbours, as I have not so much rubbish now, to put their overflow in mine . Two boisterous and hungry boys they have.
Last week, came home and looked in bin, and saw a bit of loose food waste in bottom, wasn't pleased, as I always double wrap left-overs. The funniest thing was that a white rubber glove had got trapped in the lid, and the fingers were hanging out like one of those joke things that used to be on the boots of cars.
I was appalled to think what the binmen thought I had been up to. Anyway, next day, my lovely neighbours must have realised wrong bin and changed.

Re: What a cheek!!!
The trouble is if you double wrap things won't you be falling foul of the not recycling rules and binning too much stuff that shouldn't be binned. You just can't win.

Oh Tish, never thought 'bout that one. I wrap in newspaper (should be in separate bag), then in Supermarket bag (plastic). You gonna' give me nightmares Willow, oh, the stress.
Slinky: you right, they are very heavy and must be very difficult, not only for Lettie, but for frail pensioners older than me that have to cart it, even a short distance. I did fall over one day whilst pulling it up (put it down to me stilettoes of course).Picked meself up,dusted meself down and started all over again, but suppose could have had more dire consequences. !
