Re: What a cheek!!!
I can't understand why the council won't empty the bins if the lid is slightly open. I know it was mentioned in a previous post about the rubbish falling on the binmen, but every time i see our binmen they push the wheelie bin to the back of the waggon, step to one side, then press a button. I can't be anything to do with the weight either, i.e. a bin half full of one type of waste could be heavier than one full to the top with another. If this is the excuse, the bin wagons are pretty lame.

Re: What a cheek!!!
Pondering to health and safty. A gust of wind might catch the lid with the result the binman cops it on the conk and needs 6 nmonths of work to recover from the injury and the mental distress it caused. All on full pay of course.

Re: What a cheek!!!
That sounds more like the real reason. I heard that they can only push the bins, & not pull them, for health & safety reasons.

Re: What a cheek!!!
The council is so afraid of it happening they will say or try anything to avoid it. Next the path will have to be smooth with no obsticles in case the bin hits it stops and the binman goes over the thing. If someone puts household electricles in our bin area and the binmen find they are in the way ours dont get emptied trip hazzards etc.

Re: What a cheek!!!
I must admit that i'm quite lucky that my bin goes right outside my back gate, & the alleyway is quite wide so i don't have the problems that some people face. Also, because i live alone my bin only really needs emptying once a month. I do put it out every fortnight though.
1. Because i'm paying for a service.
2. My nieghbours have children & might run out of space in their own bins for all the rubbish, so they can put it in mine.
As for putting it out by 7:30am, I don't finish work until 3:30am, so mine goes out as soon as i get home. Neveer realised how lucky i am until now.

heres my other gripe with HBC
i have a front and back garden and so do all the other houses on my avenue yet i am not in a garden area according to HBC
i asked where the garden areas were and low and behold its the higher band areas like posh parts of oswaldtwistle etc
so despite the front and back of my house been covered with that green stuff called grass it appears my area isnt posh enough or dosnthave the correct type of grass to be considered a garden area

Re: What a cheek!!!
well how typical and similar our councils are , now every week since our system changed to the three bin thing both collections have always been between 10 and 11 am for recyclin so my bins have always been out for 8.30 9 am. hubby put both bins out at 8,45 ish and off down to the allottment we both go ..just got back a short while ago only to find my tinnie bin still full but garden waste empty...asked my neighbour if hers had been done and it turns out that tin bin s were emptied a 7.30 this morn uurrrrrgggggggghhhhh they are allowed to cock up the system but complain when we do it strong complaint going into local coucil tomorrow ,,will have to wait a month to get it emptied now

Re: What a cheek!!!
One thing that i do find disturbing about all this, is that the re-cycling bins/bags are left out on the pavement all day. Thus showing that nobody is home.

Re: What a cheek!!!
where i live the council have decided to search through 700 wheelie bins to see what we are throwing away,we have been told to recycle more, well i dont know how recycling works in accy but we have 2 small boxes that get taken once every 2 weeks one box for cardboard and paper and the other one for glass, and we also get a blue bag for plastic/tins,thats when they decide to actually give us the bag, their meaning of plastic is just bottles no marg or icecream tubs or anything like that, well i like to recycle but it would help if the council actually did there job and actually recycle most things

Re: What a cheek!!!
What I'd like to know is exactly what do they expect us to do with non-recyclables if they take us over the quota we are allowd to throw away per fortnight? Also, surely it's far worse to contaminate the recyclables with something non-recyclable than vice versa?

Re: What a cheek!!!
They push the bins AccyJay so that they can load it onto the wagon without having to turn around.
When I put my black bin (the council calls it a grey bin) out on a Thursday evening I pull the bin to the kerb and leave it handle towards the road. So does everybody else.
When the binmen arrive one guy grabs TWO bins pulls them both into the road and pushes each in turn towards the wagon. He then returns them more or less on the pavement by pulling them. It has been known that a bin without the handle outwards has not been emptied.
That programme tonight is going to be interesting and an excellent alternative to Corrie or whatever it is called.
