Re: What Do You Spend ££££ On Food At Xmas.
Since I was widowed I don't cook a Christmas dinner, as such, any more. My daughter and granddaughter, who live with me, are fish-eating vegetarians and I'm not fond of turkey so we just have a nice fish, maybe salmon, on Xmas Day. On Boxing Day it has become tradition that all my children, grandchildren and I go to one of the local pubs for lunch then I do a buffet for the evening. I admit to buying delicacies I wouldn't normally buy for this meal and I always make a trifle laced with port and brandy (not for the faint-hearted). We all love cheeses and savoury things so I have to get plenty of those. We also have a Christmas cake that isn't! Nobody likes icing so I order a pecan/fruit cake from America. I also send these to my kids and to my brothers as Xmas presents - believe me they are scrumptious. And, of course, I get in a lot more wine and spirits than normal, Christmas Night is always spent playing daft board games as everyone gets more and more sozzled.
Christmas is a bit of a food-fest and I do spend a lot on food for just a few days but I use my nectar points at Sainsburys, which I collect all year. It's the one time of the year I have all my family around me at the same time and it's worth it.
