What Do You Think About Drink Driving?
What do you think the sentence should be for drink drivers?
I am a driver and have never even thought about jumping in the car after a drink, because it's just around the corner.
I think that drink drivers should get at least 3 years because i class it in the same level as going out with a loaded shotgun.

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?
Dont drink and drive you'll spill it all over yourself.
I must agree,i think 3 years is about right, people are getting that at the moment for killing someone in a car which is atrocious.
I think causing death by drink or drugs should get life or at least 10 years.

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?
Anyone today getting into a driving seat of any motor vehicle and driving away is fully aware of what they are doing. By driving a vehicle under the influence of any intoxicating substance should be an instant ban and 1 – 3 years for the offence of being under the influence. Those that kill as a result of their actions should face 20 years to life imprisonment and it should mean 20 years to life. I have already lost one friend as a result of this. She was a 21 year old trained nurse, beautiful and married. The individual who caused her death was banned from driving for 18 months and find £328.00………

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?
I agree, Clink for 5 years and banned for life. Its not rocket science is it. Have a drink, don't drive.
Same with using mobile phones, 6 months in clink no appeal. If you are using it then you accept the punishment.
That would soon stop it. The problem is no political party has the guts to do it. They talk about zero tolerance but won't put it in practice.

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?
l think drink drivers should face the same sentence as a murderer. Although not premeditated, everyone knows the tragic fatalities that result from it.
A fine for taking a life in this way is risible.

The act of getting in a car after having a few drinks has to be seen as pre-meditated.
There has been so much publicity for so many years in so many different forms, that anyone who gets caught should be locked up, and for killing it should be classed as murder.
Oh, and there are other crimes I can think of that is more disgusting than drink driving (rape/paedophilia)

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?
my sons uncle is dead because of a drink driver who is still walking , talking , breathing and still drinking
if you take a life drink driving you should spend the rest of your life in jail rotting and i dont give a crap when people say but they got to live with the guilt for the rest of their lives at least they still have a life
drink driving with no accidents - 5 years
drink driving with an accident but no serious injurys or death - 10 years
drink driving where serious injury or death is caused - life as in never get out of jail
drink drivers usualy are the ones who walk away from accidents and only have to worry about buying a new car which a 2 year driving ban gives them plenty of time to save up for
its about time they made the punishments so severe that people would be affraid to look at a pint before driving

drink drivers kill children too but to be honest i would rather see rapists and peodophiles simply executed rather than waste a jail cell

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?
They should make any punishments for crimes more severe.
Prison is no deterrent to the hardened criminal.

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?
I agree with you all, how anyone can even contemplate getting into a car knowing they have been drinking is unthinkable. They should be banned from driving for life with immediate jail term increasing with severity of what they have been caught over the limit, accidents, deaths etc.... Sentencing for this at the mo is nothing more than a joke

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?
insurance companies could help by increasing the cost of insurance on convicted drink drivers to 5 times what a non drink driver pays
this may lead to convicted drink drivers not bothering with insurance but yet again we would needn to look at more severe punishment for that as well

trouble with implementing zero tolerance is many mps drink and drive, many come out of the bar in the house of commons and drive- bin there seen it-though that was in the 70s.doubt if its changed that much,

AND ban them from driving for life whatever accident or lack of accident they have. (If you know what I mean) Anyone who can even contemplate getting behind the wheel of a car when drunk should never be allowed to do so again even when sober.

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?
So string them up.
Isn't that what the media is for?
