Re: What is/was special about your Mum?

I have just been reading this thread and admit to having tears in my eyes. I sat by my mothers side on the 28th February 1948 while she was very ill. The next day (leap day) I lost her forever and I still think about her day after day.
Mothers are the most precious persons in the world and should be treated as such.
I just wish I could have had mine for another 65 years, she would be with me now.

Re: What is/was special about your Mum?

I had been married 9 yrs and was very happily pregnant at last. My mum had the knitting needles out and was on a roll. On the night of 26th Aug 1986 mum passed away in her sleep, her grandson was born on the 27th Aug , they never met.Cant explain the emotions of sadness and happiness together. I still miss her.

Skimming over the usual tributes. My Mum had great common sense; an attribute I don't appear to have inherited...

Like sometimes coming across as bitter, and prone to occasionally showing themselves up?

Yes, I hope Katex's mother wasn't like that.

Still, won't stop me, from creating the odd feel good thread on here, that hopefully everyone feels able to share their thoughts in.

Give, give, give.

I've enjoyed reading, as opposed to 'skimming over the usual tributes' so far.

I, have others have said, found them very moving.

Thank you.

I have been moved by the tributes to mothers too.

My Mother is still alive and is a very strong person - stronger than me, I don't want to say more as I might have it used against me by a few here

Anyone remember this song from 1982 that I certainly remember from that year...

Happy Mothers day Mama!

.
Is that how you see me, Garinda ? Ah well, always open to criticism, will have to take a look in the mirror, don't feel bitter about anything or anybody, and showing myself up ... well, yes, maybe make a plonker of myself sometimes...

You appear to have taken my 'skimming over the tribute' remark personally for some reason.

My mum was nothing special, just did what was expected :

Family came first.
Never raised a hand to me, a look was enough.
Made sure was a meal on the table when I came home from school, and never to an empty house.
Saved to take us on holiday every year.
Provided us with lovely meals including home baking.
Made sure we were decently turned out, washed and brushed, and immediately attended to any loose buttons.
Showed me many skills like knitting, crocheting (lol)embroidery and making artificial flowers.
Although, never overindulged in stating her love for myself and my brother, I knew that by 'what she did, not what she said' let me know that I was secure in her love.
When I wanted to ask her a question, she never said "Not now, haven't got the time".

The list is endless.

This is what I meant, which to me, were the accepted mundane duties of a mother.

Just that her common sense had no boundaries and helped her to be the good mother that she was.

Kate, that is a lovely tribute.......and I do not for one moment believe you when you say you didn't inherit her common sense.

And the mundane duties of being a mother aren't really mundane to that mother(they don't think about it - they just roll their sleeves up and get on with it)......they are done because that is what mothers do.
