Re: What kind of lifestyle would 20 million pounds buy you?
Divorce settlements will always be a contentious issue but I view it this way.
On marriage both husband and wife had a certain amount of assets. Upon divorce their joint assets would also have a certain value. To my simple mind their individual assets on marriage should be deducted from the group assets on divorce and the balance divided equally between the couple and any children born to them.
Just to clarify. If the man had £100,000 and the woman had £50,000 when they wed and after a period of marriage the total family assets came to £500,000 that would be £350,000 to be shared out.
To answer the title of the thread question – the only change I would make is to get a larger flat or small bungalow with a garage and the wherewithal to hire a gardener to tend to the garden and a housekeeper/cook to keep the flat/bungalow clean and to make me one decent home cooked meal per day. S/he would have to do the washing up as well. So £20m would be wasted on me personally.
However if £20m was forced onto me I would give it all to my 4 children with the instruction that each looks after their own offspring in the way that they see fit.
My son’s wife is an expert horsewoman in training, re-training, breaking in and all that sort of horsey stuff. I know that she would like to own her own stables where she could ply her horsey trade and a riding school. I think that £5m would be enough to realise that dream. And I could have a purpose built fully self contained flat attached to the main building. Well I’m not getting any younger.
