Re: What kind of lifestyle would 20 million pounds buy you?

I'd say it should be split half way. The chap is going to continue earning and making more money after the divorce but she will have to live of the interest because she's spent her life looking after house and home for him.

Why is it us women are always branded with expletives like 'slut', etc., whilst men are considered a 'stag'. Anyway, nothing to do with the settlement at the end of the day .. sure he was doing plenty of 'banging' if he was only staying in his marriage for the sake of his kids. We will never know the truth of that, will we ?

Not sure about the 50/50 'cause this could affect his business dealings in the future and put it in jeopardy ... 37% sounds sensible to me and best of luck to her .. having to put up with someone who states only stayed for the sake of the kids .. don't believe that for one minute .. he's lying .. probably stayed because it was convenient to him.

Problem is with huge amounts of money, comes responsibility and who knows, she may use it wisely to the benefit of others.

Happily things are changing. Most people that know Chav for instance, would label him a slut, rather than the more traditional stag/stud.

On what she was offered (20 million) she would be comfortable just living off the interest....which I am told would be £500,000 per annum.
If I were the children of this pair I would despise him for wanting to dupe my mother out of what is rightly hers........and I would deplore her greed for not taking the 20 million. Definitely not a good situation, and as a lot of you have said....the only real winners her are the lawyers.

If either of them are going to keep worrying about who gets the most money out of this shambles, the only thing either of them are going to get is a short life.

No matter what the amount I still think the principle should be the same, it should be divided equally.

As others have said, either amount is still more than either can spend in a life time.

Let them carry on bickering. One thing's for sure, whatever the outcome they'll be just like the rest of us...unable to take it with them when they're dead!

would be fine except for the facts that she hasn't been looking after him for about 20 years and the home since they employed a load of staff to do that for them.

In answer to the actual question - I would buy a lovely big villa in Tunisia that I've fallen in love with. I'd use it for hols whilst the kid are still at school then I would spend 3 winter months out there ( 3 months is max visitor visa status) and 9 months back here until kids are married and settled - then apply for resident status over there. I's probably still have all my capital left and just live off the interest. Maybe Busman could start his own tour company as a hobby.

On the subject of who is entitled to what in a divorce I think Jambutty's is the fairest way
Quote:
On marriage both husband and wife had a certain amount of assets. Upon divorce their joint assets would also have a certain value. To my simple mind their individual assets on marriage should be deducted from the group assets on divorce and the balance divided equally between the couple and any children born to them.
"With all my worldy goods I thee endow" is part of the standard marriage service. It comes after, "with my body I thee worship"
