That is disgusting, the attendant should be given his cards and told not to come back IMO.

Re: what next i wonder???????

Very disturbing. Many Canadians, perhaps even a majority now, do not support the presence of Canadian troops in Afghanistan. But there is almost unanimous support for the troops. And I don't think this is contradictory. Many local businesses offer discounts to members of the armed forces. Every so often the local rag publishes a list of these outlets. Sounds like it is time for a boycot of BP and all their products.

If you don't choose to stand behing the troops; feel free to stand in front of them.

I read that this morning at the barbers. I bet the soldier was seething. No wonder BP made a grovelling appology.

Who is BP trying to kid? You can’t mistake a Captain in combat fatigues for a squaddie and certainly not a cop.

BP chickened out. He should have been sacked on the spot. I’ll bet that if it were a non Asian petrol station worker and the Captain had been an Asian the story would have been different.

General Sir Richard Dannatt should have no worries about there being a gulf between this civilian and the armed forces. Whilst our armed forces do the task set them by our dictator Blair and now Brown in a responsible manner, which they do, they have my support.

What filled me with disbelief was the report that thugs have been vandalising the homes and cars of service personnel whilst they laid their well being and life on the line for the ungrateful thugs back in the UK.

Just as a small aside - a few days ago it was announced that Brown would be bringing back a few thousand troops from Iraq early next year or was it later this year.

By a strange coincidence it is reported today that America is agitating for more troops for Afghanistan. Brown bringing some troops home is just a coincidence isn’t it?

'Tis a bit strange though, could be some truth in the misunderstanding of uniform/beer bit, after all, if he had been buying petrol would have had no option but to serve him, as filled tank up already.

How were the witnesses so adamant that he refused him on his political views ? No further details here, and never known the Sun to miss an opportunity of a quote from a witness.

Bit biased this report, however, sure if it had been a white attendant, would have served him anyway irrespective of licensing laws, etc., due to the respect this soldier would have received from them.

Cool Re: what next i wonder???????

There is another point. I wasn’t aware that a policeman in uniform cannot buy booze. A policeman on duty fair enough, but on the way home????

I never learn to think before posting do I ? particularly when you are on the lurk ...

Hope you all don't think I am in favour of this attendant's behaviour, just two sides to a story, and newspapers always ready to put a spin on a story for good reading.

What amazes me about the story is that Petrol stations in the UK are allowed to sell alcohol ,
fish bait and ammo sales I can understand but alcohol , what sense does that make

About as much sense as drug stores selling cigarettes.

Re: what next i wonder???????

I dont think i know of a petrol station now that only sells petrol and motoring related stuff.
so many are be taken over by spar tesco etc ..

Personally i think bp are just trying to blag their way out of it,
Katex i see what you mean because reading through the comments posted one said that bp,s training it absolute rubbish and trying to train different cultures dont seem to be on their list of priorities as apparently it was to difficult to get through the language barrier , so they just let it go .

maybe BP should be doing more . but imo there were just too many witnesses to this for me to be swayed into thinking it was a mix up ..

bp are also sending a standard mssg out now to all those that email and complain about it .
