What's the nicest thing someone has done for you?
Good people don't get the the press they should so here's your chance to tell everyone about someone who's done a really nice thing for you. I'm hoping we're not gonna get a load of descriptions of romantic marriage proposals as we all know that's nice wherever you get them. I mean someone who has gone the extra mile.
I'll start it - the nicest thing that someone has ever done for me is jump in the sea in France and save me from drowning. She swam to me, tried to get me to float on my back - which I can't do - abandoned that idea and got me safely back to gthe beach. To my eternal shame I have no idea who she was and the only thing I know is that she was french and, after she had saved my life, all I could say to her was a rather pathetic "merci".
I hope she has the most fabulous life ever. May her family prosper forever.
Nice

Re: What's the nicest thing someone has done for you?
Recently Harwood Red used her skills, and a considerable amount of time, to fill some very hefty forms in for me. The results of which have made my future a hell of a lot brighter than it looked before.
Thank you Lesley. x

Re: What's the nicest thing someone has done for you?
She'd be really upset if she knew I'd told anyone, so no names, but a month after being diagnosed with Parkinson's a lady I hardly know gave me a cheque for a thousand pounds. I of course refused it, but she said she'd be hurt if I didn't accept it graciously and use the money. I paid to see another specialist and had weekly acupuncture, which at the time helped me greatly.
Again, thank you.
Thanks also for a great thread. It's all so easy to knock people and complain, but it's nice to talk about the many exceptionally kind and caring people there are for a change.

Re: What's the nicest thing someone has done for you?
had to go to a bank in southern france, years ago,due to leaving all travellers cheques in uk. after waiting in line the teller and her mates could not speak english, plus with my grasp of french PANIC a young german lass behind me heard all this and hey presto she could speak french and english, so she sorted out for me. also they had to wait for confirmation from u.k. of the numbers etc so was told come back in a couple of hours. PANIC again, the lass told me she was away somewhere by then, but not to worry she would give me a note to present on my return, after leaving the bank i waited for the lass and her mate to thank them, and offered to take them to breakfast/coffee whatever as a thank you, they refused point blank saying she was just glad to help, and that was it- never saw her again, but it certainly changed my outlook cos krauts were not my favourite people. that lass was a DIAMOND.

Re: What's the nicest thing someone has done for you?
I had just finished a night shift at QPH (as it was then)........we had had a shift from hell........I had been called in to do the night shift because someone had gone sick.....during the night I started to come down with the lurgy that was striking down all the staff....it was pure will power that kept me going until the end of duty. I was never so pleased to go off duty and get myself off to bed....except when I got to my car I found the front tyre had been vandalised. I sat on the kerb and wept.......two of the security guards saw my predicament an d took pity on me....they took me to their hut and sat me down with a brew while they set about and changed my front tyre.....one of them even asked if I was well enough to drive home. What great hearted lads they were.....I was very grateful for their help that morning.......when I went back to work later that week I took them some beers.

Re: What's the nicest thing someone has done for you?
What a great thread Shady.
My gran took me in when I had nowhere to go. I am eternally grateful to her. She looked after me for five or six years. Every morning she got up at 6 to make me a brew and toast and look after me before I set off to work.

Re: What's the nicest thing someone has done for you?
About 15 years ago I went on holiday on my own, (I'd had a bad time and needed to get away), when I got off the plane and was waiting for my rucksack I struck up a conversation with a bloke who was doing the same as me. Neither of us had an apartment booked. We shared a taxi into the main town and when we arrived a mad Greek woman asked us if we were looking for a room. We both said 'yes'. She of course, assumed that we were together and showed us a really nice double room. Once we'd explained to her that we didn't know each other and the chap had gallantly allowed me to have the really nice room she showed him a room of his own.
For the whole week, knowing that I was a bit fragile, he was my guardian angel. He never asked anything of me, he never took advantage and he was always extremely gallant and generous. He even helped me find the apartment one night when I had gone out with some girls I'd met and got so drunk that I was yobbishly being sick in the street. When I think back to the sort of situation that I could have been in and the advantage he could have taken of me, I can't help but think I found a real gentleman there.
He gave me his card as we stepped back of the plane in Manchester and I'm ashamed to say that I rudely threw it into the first bin that I walked past. It was very mean of me when he'd shown me nothing but kindness. I only hope he didn't see me do that. At a time when I didn't think there were any gentlemen out there he gave me complete faith that there are.

Re: What's the nicest thing someone has done for you?
I get a distinct impression that you've maybe changed a lot over the years. I can't imagine you doing such a thing.
