Re: When You Are Dead and Gone
It's nice to see I'm consistent, as I gave the same answer in this old thread, as I gave the other week in a similar one.

Re: When You Are Dead and Gone
When my Dad died the undertaker (Birtwistles Gt.Harwood) asked what I would like to do with his ashes, I asked him if the Royal Navy did burial at sea for ex-sailors (he had allways said his days on Destroyers during WW2 were the best years of his life), he made a couple of phone calls and found out that it was possible , all I had to do was produce his Navy I.D. number , the undertaker had to make a wooden box of suitable size with holes drilled in it to aid sinking , the Navy asked for any preferance for place for the comitment , I said somewhere off Plymouth if possible since that was his home port for basic training. A few weeks later I got a letter from the Admiralty saying his remains had been sent out to sea and even sent me a map of the location and the name of the ship .
There was no charge and I believe its a service available to all ex members of the Royal Navy who had a good conduct discharge .
Not sure if the Air Force or Army offer a similar service for their veterans but if anyone is interested it may be worth asking .

Re: When You Are Dead and Gone
ideally i'd want to die in a HUGE accident where due to my sheer stupidity i'm carrying a tanker full of fuel and lots of fireworks - so needless to say nothing will survive...
but in case i do... burial...
with my xbox 360 pad in hand....
and a copy of the latest x-men comic to b left at my graveside every month...

Re: When You Are Dead and Gone
If and when the Surgeons have cut out everything possible to keep me alive, I would like the rest buried, in a new family plot. This is the next arrangement I will be making selecting a suitable location, not to wet not, to much sun and if possible inbetween two females as I would like a little company in the afterlife, and definitley not near a tree as I have no wish to be peed on by every dog that visits. .

I have Birtwistle ancestors and they hail from that part of Lancs....I've traced the family line back to 1500. If he's one of ours, maybe I can get a discount. Only joking.
When my dad died, half of his ashes were scattered in a Memorial Garden in Accrington, the other half I took out to Arizona and scattered there. He was particularly fond of that state and his "headstone" often appears in movies and ads.
For myself, I plan on being cremated. Dad always said it was the most sanitary way to go. My remains will be scattered on family owned property here.
