who remembers..

when the arndale centre first opened???

i was about 10 or maybe younger and i was like wow!!!!

the old grandfather clock used to get huge crowds standin there to look at it!!

back then thundercats used to be the top cartoon and john menzies bought in a guy in a mumra costume - i was in total awe

and now?

who let the townies in???

I remember the Arndale opening i was expecting my first child, thought i was going to go into labour after standing still for what seemed like an eternity watching the clock. God it was ugly, the clock not the child. hehehe

remember going the old cinema for the first time on my own at i think 13 just before they shut it to start on the arndale went to watch one of the james bonds and i got refused coz it was a 15 think i ended up watching some rubbish alien film called mac and me

I remember going to the opening with my aunt..... it was packed, and Ken Dodd was opening it officially..... I couldnt see anything as I was too small and remember just seeing the backs of lots of peoples coats...... I remember Thundercats better.. I was a massive fan lol

I remember the Arndale Centre when it was the sunken garden.......now THAT is going back a bit!

i dont actually remmeber the land where the arndale is now b4 it was built

what was it?

i remember barely the old cinema...

Are you thinking of the Astronaught which had the Toby upstairs, rockarabbit? It was directly across from the public loos.

I can remember before there was a Marks and Spencers! I thought it was really exciting that we were getting something "posh" lol

i remmeber when st james st was open to traffic

and so was broadway

that wasnt so bad...

they really killed off blackburn rd by makin the town hall area pedestrianised

Yes I remember when traffic used Broadway and the zebra crossing just about where Greggs now is. It used to be so crowded on Saturdays in town that once people started crossing it was almost impossible for the traffic to get going again.

There was a Huncoat bus stop on Broadway too. My friend lived at the Griffin in Huncoat and I often caught that bus. Sometimes it went up Burnley Rd and sometimes up Avenue Parade.
