Who says we're broke?

I know this crops up on other threads but it's getting so silly I thought it might be worth its own.
£8,400,000,000 on foreign aid this year!! £12,600,000,000 in 2012!!
Broke? How can we be when the government can give that sort of money away? To India-£295 million, for what? One of the fastest growing, richest countries in the world. To dictators Swiss bank accounts?
We already give £17.5 billion to the EU, a lot of that goes as foreign aid to our East European fellow members. Isn't that enough?
We give more than any country in the world except the USA. Thats the richest country in the world, we're one of the most bankrupt in the EU.
Look at debtbombshell.com, it's frightening.
Whatever your politics, this is maddness. That money would pay over a third of the INTEREST we will pay this year. Instead we'll have two aircraft carriers with no aircraft. Or it would make some of the cuts being imposed on us unnecessary.
It makes good headlines in the Express(a Tory paper?) but it makes me really angry. Who is this government crawling to? Certainly not us!

Re: Who says we're broke?

dont wory because despite all the cuts cameron has made he has assured the nation that foriegn aid will be protected so allthough we may be all in it together this courtesy does not extend to people outside the UK unless of course you ar an ex patriot then you will be in it with us whatever "it" is because if what cameron is in is "it" then i want to be in "it" too with the bank balance that goes along with been in "it" with him

Re: Who says we're broke?

£380,000.00 sent from the U.K. last year in foreign aid... to poor, cash strapped, Saudi Arabia, as I posted earlier, in another thread.

Let's hope their aid too is increased by thirty seven percent, as the coalition decided to do last week, whilst informing those in Britain of the draconian cuts we are about to face.

Saudi Princes' manservants don't come cheap, even if you beat 'em.

So let's not be mean, and send the aid willingly.

You'd be hard pushed to rent a suite at the Park Lane Hotel for the summer, with that paltry, third of a million quid.

It could have summat to do with the fact that numerous foreign nationals of countries who are receipients of these hand outs are resident in the UK; as such can deliver the swing vote in any election in many constituencies.

Re: Who says we're broke?

The powers to be are more worried about their image abroad than the problems at home. We send money that we dont have abroad just to look good on the international stage. Chances are countries gaining from it are laughing at us behind our backs. Sorry but home first then if owt left then it might be sent abroad but only in a dire emergency. We prop up the corrupt by sending aid because they cant be arsed looking after their own people because they are busy lining their own pockets. Yet we have to put up with a slow fiscal culling by a thousand cuts.

I bet the Argies are loving this and are planning to take the Falklands back. They will wait a few years till we are on our knees from a military perspective knowing we will be in no shape to do owt about it.

Re: Who says we're broke?

thing is though some of the foreign folk around here, think it should be cut, but those in power whoever it may be are afraid to take the gamble that it would be a majority of em.

He might qualify for some himself.

Now he's living down there.
